The Supreme Court, in its first ruling on President Trump’s use of executive power during his second term, decided that he cannot, for now, dismiss the government lawyer leading the watchdog agency responsible for protecting whistle-blowers.

NGC 4485 - NGC 4490 by NIRCam. Processed by @thocarp.bsky.social www.flickr.com/photos/19746... 🔭 🧪
A wide-field image from the Hubble Space Telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) shows a galaxy pair against a dark background speckled with fainter objects. The larger, distorted spiral galaxy NGC 4490 dominates the right side of the image, its spiral arms disrupted and pulled towards the smaller, irregular galaxy NGC 4485 on the left. Both galaxies exhibit bright, reddish areas indicative of active star formation, with a diffuse glow surrounding their centers.

You may have seen this photo being described as a glowing sucker octopus (Stauroteuthis syrtensis). This is actually a photo of a coconut octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus). Those suckers aren't actually glowing, that's just a trick of the light.
A coconut octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus) swimming just above the sea bed. It has its arms out and then curving back, spreading out the webbing between its arms and exposing its suckers. The octopus is a dark red, with a brown webbing over most of its body and some orange near the back. Its suckers are white, but they look sky blue due to the light. The seabed has a dark grey sediment.

I don't think I need to clarify my stance on the topic but these soccer folks summed it up
Soccer stadium, large fabric flag of Mae Borowski from Night In The Woods, holding an axe and wearing team colors. There is text in the Night In The Woods title font on the right and left. It reads "From Stonewall a brick and Portland an Axe, Respect our pride or expect our wrath." It's cool

Neptune by JWST. 🔭 🧪
Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) image of Neptune, taken on 12 July 2022, brings the planet’s rings into full focus for the first time in more than three decades. The most prominent features of Neptune’s atmosphere in this image are a series of bright patches in the planet’s southern hemisphere that represent high-altitude methane-ice clouds. More subtly, a thin line of brightness circling the planet’s equator could be a visual signature of global atmospheric circulation that powers Neptune’s winds and storms. Additionally, for the first time, Webb has teased out a continuous band of high-latitude clouds surrounding a previously-known vortex at Neptune’s southern pole.

Webb's first deep field. This is so deep space that if you'll look at this portion in the sky, you'll see complete darkness. 🔭 🧪
The James Webb Space Telescope's first deep field image reveals a stunning tapestry of galaxies, both near and far. The image showcases a vast expanse of space, filled with countless stars and galaxies of various shapes and sizes. Some galaxies appear as bright, swirling spirals, while others are more distant and faint, mere smudges of light. This image offers a glimpse into the early universe, allowing us to explore the origins of our cosmos.

I’ve been using StoryGraph for a while now and it’s much nicer than Goodreads. An overall better user experience and lots of data and stats about your reading habits. They also have trigger warnings for books which I EXTREMELY appreciate.

Space penguin. This is Arp 142, two interacting galaxies NGC 2936 and NGC 2937. Processed by c.claude. www.flickr.com/photos/27527... 🔭 🧪
The James Webb Space Telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) captured this striking image of Arp 142, a pair of interacting galaxies. Their close encounter has distorted their shapes and triggered a burst of star formation. A bridge of gas and dust stretches between the two galaxies, showcasing the violent and dynamic nature of galactic interactions.
