@weatherpulse.com has added internatioanl #radar support for GR products. Finally got around to adding it to my install. I could sit here and watch ships (with crazy wicked sidelobing) in the Skagerrak all day (because it seems rain continues to avoid the FTG radar & my house). #radarnerd

Australia's 66 Bureau of Meteorology radars are now live in GR2Analyst and GRLevel3, with 5-minute volumes and S-band dual-pol at the major cities. Drop the updated radar file on your program and refresh your Weather Pulse source. Steps for each program: support.weatherpulse.com/hc/en-us/sec...

Haha as long as you aren't scraping 10s of radar sites to resell in your own application, you're good. Bandwidth ain't cheap. Also didn't know you had an app!

Just audited my server logs due to a sudden spike in bandwidth costs. Turned out to be a vibe-coded application scraping 153 radar sites using a single $14.99 @weatherpulse.com subscription for their "Pro" users that they charge $7/mo. Come on ya'll, don't be jerks.

Level 3 Super-Res working now. VCPs/GSMs aren't a thing in the EU so lots of fudging happening to make this work with existing decoders. Next up: Algorithmic products (SCITs, etc.)

Hey thanks! Also playing with making Himawari a bit more accessible using a new format. But for now it's Level II -> Level III decoding to see if we can start generating algorithmic products like we have in the states.

Like we know what the installer is doing but no one cares enough to call them out for it. Take federal grant funds, install a radar and restrict it to a half-assed application built by said installer. It's a shakedown and they can't even hold up their end of the deal.
120
Ryan Hickman @stormchas.ing · 21/08/2026
The grant was to fill a coverage gap, not improve research. Restricting it to a mediocre application that will absolutely require updates ($$) instead of sharing the data to existing apps is very questionable when the installer is actively sharing the data with their customers.
120
Ryan Hickman @stormchas.ing · 21/08/2026
Okay, however I have a great issue with certain providers withholding the data when it was directly funded by federal grant dollars (i.e. Durant, OK.) You shouldn't be able to have it both ways; either you use tax dollars and share the data or you privatize both the funding and the data.

METARs are now back to being directly ingested from the FAA. We take the "fastest path" approach so that these reach you as quickly as possible while maintaining redundancy. Latency for SPECIs is greatly reduced by this change. Once we have metrics we will share them with you.

Im playing with traffic cameras cycling through along with the OMOs. They seem the most relevant along with a GOES Meso region (or 2 in the case of 30s). Either way, plenty of data to play with here if anyone wants to toy around with a SDEF.
