Ron schutz’ claim in the debate that he’ll take every fraud case to trial and never plea is absurd. He’s talking about bringing fraud prosecution to a standstill because every lawyer is constantly tied up for a full month for trial and prep. You’d have to like triple staff to maintain capacity.

Can someone explain the theory behind an ordinance that permits autonomous vehicles but requires someone to sit in the front seat, instead of just an ordinance that prohibits autonomous vehicles?

I don't think people really appreciate the gravity of what is happening in the news industry. If you value getting reliable information from the news orgs you depend on, you need to support them with your dollars or they could disappear. This isn't hyperbole. It's happening right now in real time.

Note that the article quotes one of the two board members as experiencing significant family medical issues, but then does no follow up reporting on that or give readers any reason to think it’s untrue. Also combining number absences between two people is … an odd way to communicate this.

City council 100% had to approve defense and indemnification for mayor. But can someone explain why they couldn’t pick a different firm? Typically, city employees don’t get a choice. They get the city attorney or they pay their own way. Totally could be an explanation. I’m out of my depth here.

This article identifies an assistant mayor by name and describes him as having “helmed the encampment response strategy.” I have no clue whether that’s true. But I am definitely on the lookout for local media and the Mayor’s office pinning the blame for this debacle on people who are not the Mayor.

What’s actually in the Senate bill that’s supposed to stop the madness in college sports?
Changes to the bill have it inching toward a final vote in the Senate, meaning the possibility of something passing is closer than ever.

Maybe I’m insufficiently learned in municipal voting ordinances and this is just a thing. But the oral argument includes a reference to “votes cast on behalf of a trust” and my head exploded. The corporate lawyer thought it was clever to discuss the principle of “one entity one vote.”

My statement on the developing situation regarding Mayor Her.
Allegations are not dispositive, and there is much that we do not yet know about what occurred between Mayor Her, senior members of city leadership, Chief Henry, and other members of the Saint Paul Police Department. The report prepared by outside counsel of the workplace conduct investigation into Mayor Her’s behavior has not been made public. The City Council has only seen the Mayor’s administration’s two-page summary of that report, prepared by a department she oversees. The allegations in Chief Henry’s complaint have yet to be adjudicated in legal proceedings.

There are, however, a few things that we do know. The allegations against Mayor Her that were made public this week are deeply troubling. They must be taken seriously by the public, the legal system, and the City Council. We also know that the Mayor’s administration’s own summary of the investigation says that the Mayor engaged in “offensive and inappropriate behavior,” “created an uncomfortable work environment for City employees,” and “sent inappropriate text messages” to at least two City employees. The Mayor was engaging in this behavior while our City was occupied by federal forces last winter, a moment when we desperately needed steady, focused leadership in City Hall.Saint Paul city employees—no matter their title—should never question whether they will be treated with professionalism and respect by their supervisors and the city’s leadership. Our taxpayers should be able to trust that their money will be spent on essential services, not on lawsuits brought on by inappropriate workplace conduct. And every single person in our City should feel confident that the highest levels of City Hall are functioning effectively and relentlessly focused on making life better for Saint Paulites.

Any person accused of wrongdoing deserves to have a fair, impartial legal process determine the facts of what happened and assess the appropriate legal consequences. I respect that process, and do not intend to comment on the merits or specific claims in any current or future litigation. However, the existence of a legal process does not mean either the public or the Council is prevented from demanding better. As both a resident of this City and a member of the Saint Paul City Council, it is clear to me that we need and deserve more from our Mayor.

That starts with transparency. The full report from Resolute Law must be released. Just as urgently, the Mayor must explain how she is currently able to lead the Saint Paul Police Department as the chief executive for Saint Paul. A police force that does not have meaningful leadership from the people’s elected representative is not a tolerable or sustainable state of affairs. We need to know—now—what has and will be done to ensure that that leadership and oversight exists.

If only there were a elected leader in Saint Paul in high enough position to knock the mayor down a rung, and who is also currently in a neck and neck election for a new office and so has the political incentive to stick their neck out to try and expand their support by speaking truth to power.

Stopped on a random page of the Henry v. Mayor Her complaint definitely reading this whole thing.
Screenshot of a text message from “Kaohly” in which she asks the Chief whether Mancini’s has THC drinks and “if not let’s go somewhere that has them for Saturday night.” Chief Henry responds “no idea,” with obvious leave me alone attitude, and the mayor responds, “I’ll find out.”

Learned today that standard dental insurance doesn’t cover twice a year pediatric fluoride anymore. Industry is down to once a year coverage for kids. So the dentist has to recommend it but then tell you your insurance won’t cover it.

Another significant development in our poll is Republican Jim Schultz taking the lead over DFL incumbent Keith Ellison with a week to go before the election. Schultz leads 49% to 42% with 9% undecided. Ellison led by 6 points in our poll in early September and by 2 points in early October.

This clip is outrageous. @mayorher.bsky.social says that the loved ones of pig’s eye residents—those who gave them rides when she vacated their *home*—are at fault for her ruinous decision making. They don’t deserve a home. They don’t deserve to have people care for them. Recall worthy nonsense.
