Have your fun, but also the arch city history guy's work seems all around awesome too. My neighbor has one of his colorized old photos of our block's corner pub. Jander Kason has a certain ring to it, hmm 🤔

Just considered the comparative skill of Hegseth and co to plan logistics for an overseas war vs (with his producer/wife) a televised execution. dystopian. disturbing.

“This is not a list of authors aimed at preparing students for life and work in the 21st century. UT should allow faculty to choose the texts that best offer multiple perspectives on the particular questions they are considering. Anything less disrespects both faculty and students.” – UT Austin AAUP

Better national parks for this: Gateway (just use Busch stadium down the street), Everglades 🐊, any in Alaska (don't they do midnight ball up there anyway? But put it on a glacier), Arches (sure, it's fragile, that's half the fun!), Big Bend (since they're damaging it anyway)...

I remember when we used to evaluate black swan Intel reports and the source reliability before planning complex operations based on them. Even if time-sensitive reporting, why would you expend manpower before officials 'dug deeper'?

Meanwhile I was complaining of severe, disruptive menstrual cramping, along with low libido, fatigue, etc, and was ignored. They even took a biopsy of my cervix (ruled out cancer) but didn't test it for endometriosis, so I couldn't get proper treatment for another decade.

It used to be folklore that DoD was putting lithium in the milk and/or sport drink dispenser at Basic to reduce occurrences of libido, uh, interfering with training.

Hegseth is going to be so disappointed to learn Pituffik Space Base won't regain the name Thule (derived from ancient Greek instead of indigenous language ffs) and none of the old bases to reopen will be named after Confederate generals. Sad!

And I assume there was no collision between the state AG, SoS (defendants) and Onder (plaintiff), right? /s I'd like the appeals court to consider whether this is like the bad faith Trump v IRS "settlement," and issue sanctions if so. Then the US House & Senate should impeach & remove Judge Clark.

I had a secondhand thinkpad in college to supplement my desktop computer. It had smaller keys instead of extendable. My hands are tiny and I'm an excellent typist, but that keyboard was a challenge. I think I originated some of the silliest autocorrects.

Try this: 1st measure how many folded-up adult bodies you can fit in your cello case (say, 2.5). Tell the salesman you're looking for "a three body trunk." Be sure to get a mental pic of *that* face. Then when you pull out a cello case, they'll probably just be relieved. 😂

I could pick up a copy of your book at the Schlafly branch of the library, if that would help? I think it's actually named after a childless aunt & uncle of Fred's (phyllis' husband), but I like to send my liberal arts check-outs to that branch and imagine her spinning in her grave.

I'm afraid UDP is looking at their win-loss as, like, 4-1 and thinking it's pretty good for them. I don't think millions of dollars weighs into their calculation as much as it does for us, based on the many millions they spend.

Admittedly I've been more interested in element of this race that was also in play in my House district, MO-01, than any of the Senate primaries. In state-wide office, did El-Sayed seem like a flamethrower or a consensus builder?

Strange Wonk in a Strange Land @stlwonk.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
When she's *in* the seat (looking at her House seat), it seems like she's a team player and consensus builder. Exactly the kind of Dem politician the DSCC would want.

Ok, but dark money right-wing PAC shenanigans is the landscape until the Citizens United SCOTUS ruling is reinterpreted into irrelevance. If *I* know that, DSCC should know that and, like, maybe also have a strategy to counter such shenanigans?

The payoff to Flynn was a forerunner of what Trump wanted to do with his $1.8B slush fund to pay insurrectionists who beat up cops at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Republicans are pretending that shameful idea is “dead,” but they could reinstate it after Todd Blanche gets confirmed as AG. 4/4🧵

🧵🧵🧵 A scandal that hardly anyone knows happened is Trump giving traitor Michael Flynn $1.25 million in your tax money. Flynn, Trump’s 1st national security adviser, pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI but was pardoned by Trump. He sued, alleging "weaponization," and DOJ paid him in March. 1/4🧵
