Feeling wrecked after cutting back snowberry seedlings mixed in with long grass with a scythe yesterday. The snowberries are too thick to weedwhack and mowing is too risky with how dry everything is, so scything is the way to go.🫠

While a good flood would at least assist in putting the fires out, newly burned slopes are at increased risk of mudslides and debris flows for 4-5 years until vegetation re-establishes itself and gets root systems going to hold the soil in place.

In today's fire news, the Bug Fire and the Fred Mountain Fire have indeed joined up into one massive 44k acre fire. The Stallion fire to the east is at 22k acres and fire officials are moderately concerned it will link up with them. Also the whole area is now under a flood watch.

One of my favorite things about social media today is seeing the different ways people alter their work wear to suit their needs. Sewing zippers into apron pockets, adding elasticized knit cuffs to flannels, pockets added to smocks sized to fit a cigarette carton and lighter.

The rainier cherry harvest has begun in WA. This cherry is very delicate. Workers must be careful not to bruise it. They earn $10 per 25 lb bucket. In this very short one month season a very fast picker can make 40 buckets in a 8 hr day. But most workers pick much less. #WeFeedYou
