Small software devs have the highest level of customer support because they usually have fewer customers. Think about the ratio of support devs to number of customers. One solo-dev can support a few thousand customers.

When I see "Sorry for the delay, we are experiencing a high level of demand" I read "We underfunded customer support department because we don't care about customers"

Big companies chasing the money don't case about existing customers and making their lives better. They only care about growth.

There's a service I've been using for many years. Support used to be great when they were small. Now they are big it's terrible. I issued a complaint and received no response. Today I get an email telling me they bought out an AI company so they can push new AI products.

10x Editor exists because it can survive small and grow slowly. I suspect this is true of any product that focuses on quality.

Tired of companies chasing the money rather than focusing on quality. Always pivoting to the next big thing in the hope of striking it big. I understand, it's hard to sell quality, much easier to jump on the hype train.

For anyone saying 250ms start-up time is too slow, I agree. But take it up with Microsoft, it's the time it takes to start DirectX and create a window. 10x could start in around 60ms.

The new build contains a number of improvements of AI agent integration. Most notably, the replace_text tool. This is a more robust way of agents writing to files, so be sure to tell your agent about it.

I decided 10x wasn't fast enough, so I've been optimising again: - Open workspace time reduced by 20% - Start-up time: reduced by 30% 10x now starts in around 250ms

Everything that's wrong with modern software can be summed up in two words: "Unnecessary Complexity" Programming languages, project structure, build systems. libraries, performance, team structure, all suffer from this.

Just to be clear, 10x doesn't contain any AI. The recent update adds an MCP server that allows any agents you're running to communicate with and control 10x. The new Terminal feature allows you to open terminals in 10x, which allows you to run CLI AI agents within 10x.

It turns out that AI agents want to use 10x too. They need fast code navigation as much as we do. Stop waiting for AI to grep files and give it access to 10x.

The vim.py script that 10x uses is maintained by the community. We've decided to let AI write and maintain its own script to see if it does better. The AI script is here: github.com/Phildo/10x/b... If you're a 10x vim user give it a try and leave some feedback.

Most products get slower as they age. When you have a large team of programmers working on new features and adding complexity this is almost inevitable. 10x is getting faster as it ages. Whatever I'm working on, every time I notice something slow, I stop what I'm doing and fix it.

I just watched an interview with someone saying AI literally makes programmers 10x more productive. I chose the name 10x Editor before AI was a thing. Really pleased that the 10x programmer meme is still going strong.

With the new multi-window feature, if you want to create a new window with columns you need to use Window Menu -> New Window. Just dragging a window out won't create columns so you won't be able to move files between them.

Nice! Using Visual Studio and moving from Snowdrop to Unreal made me have a nervous breakdown a few years ago, but thankfully 10x was just around the corner and made my job fun again. I now use 10x every day and I cannot recommend it enough if you work on huge code bases!
