If you are wondering why Anthropic aren't coming out and opposing statements like this, it's because they very genuinely do not care about climate responsibility and will burn absolutely whatever they can get their hands on to keep the grift going. www.capitalbrief.com/article/anth...
Anthropic’s $32b Queensland data centre to run on coal and gas power until renewables are built
I frontier lab Anthropic’s first Australian data centre at Zerra DC’s proposed $32 billion project in regional Queensland will be powered by coal and gas as a bridge until renewables to support the facility are built.

Wambo Cattle Company managing director Max Winders, the owner of the land Zerra plans to build on, told Capital Brief he expects fossil fuels to power the massive project for the foreseeable future.

“I think we’ll be using fossil fuels for quite a long time in Queensland, anyhow, certainly enough to be able to get the power to drive the data centres,” he said.

Winders said that he believed that the concessions Queensland Premier David Crisafulli negotiated “at National Cabinet was critical” for ensuring the Western Downs development has the best chance of being built.

“In all likelihood, they’ll just link up to the grid, sign a contract with the state energy provider, and then, likely draw the power from the coal plants that are already there.”

The natural price of software is zero. And then the AI-as-a-service companies are going to have to pay a premium on top of that for the privacy & data issues.

The stock market going up is *bad*, actually. It doesn’t represent value, it represents profit. That is, how much of GDP isn’t productive. How much value is being looted by monopolies, exploitation or destruction. A rising stock market should tell us to bust up the trusts, not be celebrated.

We saw this stuff constantly during and after Metro Surge here in MN; you see it in how Trump has stripped the protected status of Haitians. “You’re in a racial group we detest, but you’re an American or have a legal right to be here. No matter: we’ll simply change the rules, now you’re illegal.”

It is so helpful to impeachment that Trump keeps committing crimes. We never have to relitigate old crimes, because there is a fresh one available every day!

We need the scientific class to realize they are workers and need a union if they don’t want to be crushed by capitalism. If science is truly automated, where scientists aren’t needed at all, that is one thing. But scientists are being told they must hand over their labor to their bosses for free.

stewardish.bsky.social @stewardish.bsky.social · 1h
The framing is not ideal, but this is just labor activism by people who have never thought of themselves as the working class. Science is going to be automated the way manufacturing was: everything is worse, the jobs that are left suck, and all the profits go to the stock market instead of us.

The problem is that if we don’t believe that labor rights are more important than productivity, our society is going to collapse under the weight of exploitation.

The question is not “do machines feel pain?” It is “why would we care?” It is not a real thing. It is a program generating text. People can’t tell the difference the same way people decided they married Snape. That should not make it my problem.

Pretty clear to me there’s a very good case against this man for mass murder, and I’m saying that in as measured a fashion as I can. He’s order the killing of 234 people under no plausible war or legal justification. I am skeptical he will ever face legal accountability for til his but he should.

I’m not saying the anti-Zionist movement is perfect. It absolutely is not. But the Nazis are a whole different problem, and also currently working in the White House.

This goes for everyone on both sides who are mad. All Jewish-Americans are worthy of protection and safety. We are neither responsible for nor beholden to Israel and it is anti-Semitic to say otherwise. A lot of pro-Israel organizations are proving that they disagree.

It is an interesting new challenge with streams. It’s a conversation, and it isn’t scripted or rehersed. The fans have the context, but ideological opponents can strip-mine hundreds of hours of content. And then only the parts they pull out break containment.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

Online it is also impossible to tell if someone is actually-left-wing or a right-wing anti-Semite vaguely pretending to be socialist to try to recruit more anti-Semites. In person, it is a conversation instead of isolated tweets, so it is a lot harder for them to pretend.

The genocide has been the mobilizing event for a bunch of people joining the left recently. But in person, actually anti-Semitic shit goes after people’s friends and the folks who had handled the logistics. So it’s not just a moral thing or bad for the movement: it literally makes no sense.

One thing: anti-Zionist Jewish activists have been organizing for decades. The movement against the genocide in Gaza was often championed by Jewish organizers (including people arrested/fired for it, like Maura Finkelstein). When people didn’t talk about Israel, anti-Semites could hide.
