The time when I was playing at a friend's house who lived rural and the screen went blank. I told him it was just the game, one of its crazy sanity effects - but it didn't come back after a few seconds so I was stuck in the dark in a weird house because the power had gone out in real life 🫣

They were trying shit. They were throwing budgets at games but holding onto the good parts of the previous gen design sensibilities. Artists and technicians squeezed this generation's hardware for every ounce it would give and you can see it on the screen.

I had close to the perfect situation for this game. My brother and I both had GBAs and loved co-op games. The hardest part was finding two GBA-GC link cables in regional Australian department stores.

They have some things that are icky about them (mostly the 30% cut) but yeah they are just doing so much that improves the entire PC game landscape and sharing that with everyone. It's weirdly great.

The dream would be a chunky PC of some sort at the TV, a Vita-ish handheld for away, and saves synced reliably between the two. I like my Steam Deck a lot but every time I use a Vita I'm reminded that we already had it so good and lost our way.

Started Final Fantasy X last night. I remember getting quite far in it on PS2 but never quite getting to the end because I basically couldn't focus on anything back than. Immediately hit with this screen saying "remember when a game of monstrous scope could go from concept to reality in 3 years?"
