Our boy is one year old today 🥲 Happy birthday, Gizmo!

A black cat named Gizmo sits upright on a light-coloured surface. His fur shows patches of lighter brown in the sunlight. The cat's face is in the centre of the image, with bright green eyes looking upward. The background features a bookshelf filled with video games.

Started Final Fantasy X last night. I remember getting quite far in it on PS2 but never quite getting to the end because I basically couldn't focus on anything back than. Immediately hit with this screen saying "remember when a game of monstrous scope could go from concept to reality in 3 years?"

Finished watching Widow's Bay the other day, it's fantastic. Comedy by way of horror with some really outstanding episodes.

In case it's useful, I got these just yesterday from AliExpress. A bunch of adapters from USB C to various systems including Vita 1K and 3DS. Might be easier than finding the originals!

This popped up unexpectedly on my running playlist yesterday. It worked very well.

Seems like this would solve one of the biggest potential issues with the controller for a lot of people, nice!

It's been a slow month (Iron Lung was in June, whoops)

Finished this, and yeah it was good fun. Some really fun dialog, lite Zelda-y structure and a generally breezy pace.

Playing Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon via the recomp on @jamzy.bsky.social’s recommendation and also found out how to apply CRT shaders to games on Steam Deck.

Playing Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana and I reckon if I picked this up on PSP back in the day I would have become an Ys head right then. Such a satisfying, story-light mashy RPG. My cat tried to swat Adol a bunch though.

Continuing my Halo-enjoying with Halo 2. Thanks to audio being broken in the old visuals mode I’m playing in Anniversary mode. It looks nice but far out, the mood is totally different when switching between the two sometimes.

Finished Halo CE for the first time in over a decade and yeah it mostly still rips. Some of the later levels are a chore and full of repeated layouts and tedious platforming bits (??? Why ???) but a cool ending sequence makes up for a lot of issues.

Precisely, yeah. It works really well in the short tests I’ve done. Removes a layer of scaling that makes quite a big difference to how it appears on screen. (Will be a bigger difference on console since the screenshots don’t show the scaling artifacts a Switch console does)

3. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles That’s The Ivalice Chronicles in the bag. Loved it, especially the moments that forced me to re-evaluate my strategy and build a team to meet a new challenge.

I’ve been a staunch wired headset guy for as long as I can remember but I have a kitten now and I’m beginning to question my ways.

A black kitten sitting in a white washing basket, on a lounge seat. His eyes are peeking over the top of the basket.

Excited to dig into some N64 emulation with a controller that is pretty close to normal.

An 8bitdo 64 controller sits in front of its box, on a desk.

2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of the Patriots A little less incredible to play than I remember (it blew my mind open as a teen) but the ideas are still salient, relevant. The idea of leaving a mark on the world beyond your genes through culture and what was important to us particularly hits.

Gonna be one of those people who does a thread of games for the year! It’s like the notes app on my phone but you can see it. 1. Shadow of the Colossus HD This game is as cool as it’s been built up to be. The journey to each colossus and the creative puzzliness of fighting them is so good.

Had an unexplained urge to listen to Shrek (Music From The Original Motion Picture) today, then thought I’d check my lastfm and see how long ago I’d last listened. Apparently this is a once-a-decade listen for me. See you in 2036, Shrek (Music From The Original Motion Picture).

A lot of up and down but I mostly liked Metroid Prime 4. Each zone being entirely detached is a bit of a bummer but each of them was fun to navigate and search for secrets. I even enjoyed the desert, it served as a nice generally low-key place to explore between main areas.

I love listening to people mostly be unhappy about Apple, talking about cool video games, and a bunch of news I suppose. Really happy that DF have an audio show now. I could listen to that crew forever tbh.
