@ckolonko.bsky.social On TV, again!
A screenshot of a news reel on a tv. A white man, with red hair and glasses, dressed in a checked shirt, is standing next to a concrete pillbox. His arms are in mid-gesturing. It says "ITV News Anglia: Chris Kolonko-Weet: Archaeologist" at the bottom of the screen.

Merchant Adventurers’ Hall @merchantshallyork.org · 03/09/2026
We have something very exciting on its way to the Hall! Here is a sneaky peak of a new permanent display on Dr Maud Sellers: steamboat lady, traveller, historian, archivist and the first female Merchant Adventurer in 400 years. Join us for a short thread on the indominable Maud...
We are looking at a workshop and in the foreground is a large display panel in the shame of a screen. It has an illustrated coat rail with an green coat, fox fur and elaborate hat hanging from it. At the base is a travel trunk and suitcase. Above is text, illustrations and photos. We are looking at an older lady with white hair wearing a graduation gown with a cap in her hand. She looks directly at the camera with a fixed but tired stare.

Mexican painter Frida Kahlo is universally recognized for her uncompromising, brilliantly colored artwork—including self-portraits, still lifes, and narrative scenes—that deals with themes of identity, the human body, death, and pain. She was born #OTD in 1907. #ArtSky #ArtHistory
An image composite featuring a black-and-white photograph alongside a painted self-portrait of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907–1954), a feminist and cultural icon celebrated for her raw, identity-driven art. On the left, a photographic portrait captures Kahlo looking directly forward with a composed, regal expression. Her dark hair is braided atop her head, framing her prominent brow. She wears drop earrings, a structural necklace, a white blouse, and a dark shawl draped heavily over her folded arms. On the right is her 1941 painting Self-Portrait with Bonito. Kahlo mirrors her photographic likeness with an intense, solemn gaze, her hair intricately bound in dark yarn. She is clad in a simple black dress, positioned against a dense backdrop of large, glossy green leaves. A yellow-headed parrot (Bonito) perches on her right shoulder, balanced by a butterfly and a caterpillar nestled among the foliage on her left.

More Than Just an Inheritance
Inquisitions Post Mortem (IPM) are vital medieval land records that provide insights into landownership, inheritance, and family relationships following a tenant's death. They assist family historians and genealogists in reconstructing personal and local histories, revealing complex ownership dynamics over generations despite challenges in interpretation. IPMs are invaluable resources for understanding medieval society.
