Very sad to hear that Margaret Hamilton has passed away. Here's a short thread about her role in the Apollo mission, and her lesser-known work on the simulations that led to the discovery of Chaos Theory. 🧪 👩‍🔬 ⚛️

For those who don't know it, Come From Away is the true story of Gander, Newfoundland taking in 38 planes full of Americans on 9/11, feeding & housing them for most of a week. I believe our Canadian neighbors would do it again today without a second thought. We don't deserve friends that good.

He thinks voters are dupes he can win over by dangling shiny objects, but I think we are too smart for that. If the powerful want to stay in power, they have to deliver concrete results that make voters' lives better.

Not going to get into "is this a bribe," but the ways you know it's a lie are (1) he never follows through on (good) promises and (2) as others have said, he has a trifecta and could do this now. It might even stop some of the bleeding electorally. He's not doing it because he doesn't want to do it.

This happening in Dupont Circle is the perfect encapsulation of how DC is the opposite of Trumpism. It is not a place to be fenced off or guarded by troops. It is community and optimism and love and a hope against hope that the city we call home is also a proper home for the nation’s capital.

If ai poses the same threat to society as the automobile, that's a huge reason to hit the brakes on it before it becomes as integrated with modern life as the automobile is.

This is such a maddening analogy from Jensen Huang: (1) Cars still kill kids! They're basically tied with guns as a leading cause of child deaths in the USA! (2) Does anybody think it's good that kids can't safely play in the street anymore? That's bad! Link to article: apnews.com/article/nvid...
The head of the world’s most valuable company said society will adapt to AI just as it did to automobiles. He said cars were once portrayed as killing children, but the world changed its norms by having sidewalks and crosswalks and stopping kids from playing in the streets.

“When I was growing up, I used to play in the streets,” Huang said. “When cars came along, you obviously can’t play in the streets now.”

Most bees, including swarms, are harmless if not disturbed, and I wish this article had mentioned that. The attacks described are in Texas and Arizona where the Africanized bees are common--in most of the United States we can coexist alongside bee colonies without undue concern.
