literacy is more than reading comprehension; it is also understanding how another person (the author) is inviting you (perhaps challenging you) to imagine another experience, perspective, life.

Ok hold up I am so late to reading this but from the very first sentences / first question, this interview grabs you by the neck and IT DOES NOT LET YOU GO
A screenshot of an interview that is hyperlinked in the quoted skeet.

Question from Stephen Patrick Bell: Do you not feel that the city makes a demand of you to just be less of a person so that you can fit in the subway cars, walk down the streets?

Answer from Amina Gautier: I feel like everyone is being less of a person and it has very little to do with cities. I feel like I’ve been writing about that for four books and it has become more and more necessary. People are not talking to each other or looking at each other. They’re just talking past each other or waiting for someone to say something so they can jump in with their soundbite. It means I’ll always have a job. I tell people all the time, as long as people continue to not listen to each other and be insensitive, fiction writers will never go out of business. It would be great if we did go out of business because people stopped doing that. But you know, there’s always going to be material. People always ask “where do you get your stories”…

Statue of a Young Satyr Wearing a Theater Mask of Silenos
Date 1 CE–100 CE
Medium: MarbleVisiting my fave lil guy with a friendlookin at that lil guyA young satyr thrusts his hand through the mouth of a theater mask of Silenos (an old satyr) in a gesture that is both mischievous and menacing. This work may have been part of a statuary group that included another figure whom the satyr is attempting to frighten either in jest or in earnest. Although this subject is frequently found in relief sculpture, particularly on sarcophagi (coffins) and gemstones, this is the only known extant version in a work sculpted in the round. The important 17th-century sculptor Alessandro Algardi restored this statue when it was in the collection of the wealthy Ludovisi family in Rome.
