Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Have to admire Davies stones, here. Gets to hype something that'll never happen, go on about how brilliant it would've been, without ever having to deliver. 000

Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026You know what, given his youth and vigour, I actually don't believe Shatner is bald anymore. 020
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It's all well and good getting an actor like John Hurt for the role, but to not give him any of the nuance and depth of Susan's subplot - his total supplication to FATE, his embrace of fascism out of a desire for human connection and to repress his latent homosexual urges - is a waste of his time. 000
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It's absolutely bankrupt scriptwriting to change his name from Susan to Sutler. The scriptwriter thinking they were being bloody clever in a 'ey, ey, geddit?' kind of way. 100
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Interesting that it and the next World War II story both use blatant metaphors for sex and sexuality. Ace swims and the Doctor dances. 010
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Let's face it, nobody higher up the chain gave a shit so long as the characters weren't mainlining heroin or anything. 010
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 04/10/2026What is weird is the lack of geography to it all. Everywhere seems to be within 10 seconds of everywhere else. Like, the Doctor to get from a military base to a church to a beach quick as you like. 110

Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I'd genuinely like to know what their thoughts were on the future at the time of the Search for Spock - was Excelsior planned to succeed Enterprise, or was it being shown to be a bit crap (unfairly, due to Scotty's sabotage) felt to be too undermining for our new leading lady? 010
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Interesting to note that the DC Comics line released between 1984 and 1986 had Kirk take command of the Excelsior after the events of Search for Spock. They then had to contrive a way for the crew to become renegades and Spock to lose his memory again, to fit in with the start of Voyage Home. 120
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Not, as it often seems, celebrities talking around what they learnt about being a stay-at-home dad during lockdown, with a book deal already signed before the first episode launches. 011
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 02/10/2026The best podcasts have always been when it's a couple of disorganised mates, around a microphone, talking about a subject they like but aren't necessarily experts in. 110

Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Always been mesmerised by this Navigation Guild acolyte, who has picked the most inopportune moment to do the hoovering. 110
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 01/10/2026It's a bit of a challenge. The first hundred-odd pages are some fairly plodding texts about espionage and counter-espionage, history lessons and trade negotiations. It picks up as the Harkonens smash shit up, and then the Atreides counter-revolution seems to happen off-screen. 010
Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Lynch's Dune is not a good film, but it is a great film. Certainly check out the Smershpod episode on it with Paul Litchfield. 110

Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Someone said recently that the film's problem was that it had too many preview screenings, so all the fans who could've bolstered ticket sales on the opening weekend had already seen it. 110

Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 29/09/2026That's how I took it. DWM got to be for the sneery, 'woke up at 3am with my head on a sink' type fans. DWA was for kids who actually enjoyed the programme. 011

Professor Stephen Hawkwind @stephenhawkwind.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Sulu looks dope as fuck in his leather cape. Chekov obviously feels foolish for turning up to a rescue mission dressed like a 19th Century pageboy, as he swaps to a black t-shirt during their flight to Genesis. 040
