Been around the block, retired from education, sort of, not retired from life. Now got time for watercolour painting, riding my bike, and playing blues, though not all at the same time. Been glory hunting with Liverpool since Shankly’s days

I think Digger would have other views. He was told he wasn’t English by Engurland fans after scoring the worldie in Brazil. As for Bananas... I’m sure Ian Wright would have stories to tell.

We don’t need an iron dome. Simply put Badenoch on a remote uninhabited island off Scotland and she is so dense she will attract all missiles towards her. Definitely - Apprentice programme one fail candidate.

Also, most school have OfSTED approved mission statements which stand at odds with their disregard for the poor and disadvantaged. Caring for everyone regardless of race creed or political affiliation is what OfSTED look for. 2/2

Trott need to look at the OfSTED framework. If she objects to people pointing out that we have a racism problem. Specifically the bit dealing with British Values. Fairness, kindness, compassion, and fair play, are incompatible with the Tories dog racist dog whistles. 1/2

The more I hear Badenoch, the more I am convinced she is auditioning to be on the Apprentice, selling imaginary products that only she thinks are good.

Living across the pond, I am interested to see this view of Foote. Watching Burns’ documentary, he always seemed like he was trying to make you feel sympathy for those fighting for slavery. Always fake sorrowful. I much preferred Catton’s books, and McPhersons stuff as well.

Angela Rayner with the employment rights act? Is Bad Enoch really trying to tell people that they should have no rights? Or is she merely pandering to the Crispin Odey and Kwarteng class of millionaires

Win bonuses players lost in every game city won, managers who were sacked after a heavy loss or relegation due to city. All claiming compo? The repercussions are massive. The owners will have to dig a new oil well to pay for it.

Steve @stephenh.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
not a problem. I don’t care if they leave it all blank. It’s the fact that so many clubs have lost so much to them. Players are looking at claiming for win bonuses they lost. Imagine the bill for that.

And the schools needing help should be getting it. Both financial help and with good able people advising them. and I don’t mean people like Bennett.

Steve @stephenh.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I recall when they use the phrase “sound“, meaning it was solid and good. But that was not what kept them in work. If their remit was to improve schools, they should have been out of work after 5 years or be replaced, yet here we are, many years later and schools “need to improve”. They have failed.

I can almost smell the atmosphere in that photo Beer and tobacco. I can recall that smell from when were kids watching a drayman roll barrels down the hatch into the pub cellar of the Buffalo Arms on the corner of Meaburn St, where the Brunswick industrial park now is.

When you have a framework for inspection, it is only natural to frame your teaching to it. Like teaching to the test, it narrows learning and makes it a chore for both teacher and pupil. But hey I’m not big Marty and I don’t flatten grass.

Steve @stephenh.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
But such is the limited experience and knowledge of the average inspectors I have met, they would have great difficulty in “assessing” anything they didn’t have a box in their spreadsheet to tick. Old HMI would ask why you do a thing and then “is it working?” If “yes”, they would “spread the word”.

Thankfully, despite his protestations of being the normal one, Jürgen Norbert Klopp was indeed extraordinary. So much so that every manager started hugging players in the hope of winning the lot despite the Shamsters down the East Lancs (Bet you wish you had him…😉)

That‘s why the Profit and Sustainability regs were brought in. Look at Everton. Moshiri splurged half a billion and more, started a stadium which doubled in cost and nearly took the club under. Everton were running huge losses into the bargain.
