Under international law, "genocide" is such a fraught term because it requires showing 'dolus specialis,' or proof that perpetrators specifically aimed to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Trump or someone on Trump's team intentionally crafted this to meet that standard.

Right now, Democrats have the power to defund and abolish ICE. We should do it. This is about right and wrong—and the murder we are seeing on the streets is just plain wrong. Anyone who supports funding DHS and ICE is supporting the murder of Americans. We can stop this.

Chris Smalls—a Black American labor leader—was trying to feed Palestinians being starved in Gaza. The IDF detained and beat him for it. This assault must not go unnoticed and he must be freed immediately. Israel must be held to account. Let aid through. End the genocide.

A million people are about to die of starvation in Gaza because of the Israeli government's genocidal policies, fully backed by the US, and I just want to say that I am going to remember each and every person who never spoke out publicly. I will never forget or forgive.

It's a standard authoritarian playbook to target the most marginalized groups with the least institutional support first. But Trump won't stop there. He will expand these illegal arrests, detentions and deportations to include anyone whose speech he doesn't like, including U.S. citizens.

Yes. If DHS can barge in, say your visa was revoked, be told you have a green card, say it's revoked too, and then disappear you so that neither your lawyer nor your family can find you, then all the guardrails are gone. There is no policy, practice, or law protecting anyone.

This Treasury letter does not contradict reporting by WIRED & TPM. It says "Treasury staff members working with Tom Krause" have read-only access, and "all operational processes" are conducted by Treasury staff. That doesn't deny DOGE has admin and altered code. home.treasury.gov/news/press-r...
To be clear, the agency responsible for making the payment always drives the payment process. Currently, Treasury staff members working with Tom Krause, a Treasury employee, will have read-only access to the coded data of the Fiscal Service’s payment systems in order to continue this operational efficiency assessment. This is similar to the kind of access that Treasury provides to individuals reviewing Treasury systems, such as auditors, and that follows practices associated with protecting the integrity of the systems and business processes.

Mr. Krause is conducting this effort in coordination with veteran career Treasury officials, and all operational processes continue to be conducted only by career Treasury staff in accordance with all standard security, safety, and privacy standards.

Beyond bonkers. There is no tech company in the world that would push major code changes to a massive code base without testing them righteously in a dev environment, especially not the work of a single 25yo coder with less than 2 weeks of access to the system. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/musk-...
Screenshot from article reading

Phrases like “freaking out” are, not surprisingly, used to describe the reaction of the engineers who were responsible for maintaining the code base until a week ago. The changes that have been made all seem to relate to creating new paths to block payments and possibly leave less visibility into what has been blocked. I want to emphasize that the described changed are not being tested in a dev environment (i.e., not live) but have already been pushed into production. This is code that appears to be mainly the work of Elez who was first introduced to the system probably roughly a week ago and certainly not before the second Trump inauguration. The most recent information I have is that no payments have as yet been blocked and that the incumbent engineering team was able to convince Marko to push the code live to impact only a subset of the universe of payments the system controls. I have also heard no specific information about this access being used to drill down into the private financial or proprietary information of payment recipients, though it appears that the incumbent staff has only limited visibility into what Elez is doing with the access.
