Beware the unintended consequences of school screen time limits
With school phone bans of various sorts now underway in 41 states and counting, debates on classroom screen time have shifted focus to the devices ostensibly being used for educational purposes: Chromebooks, iPads, and the like. In response to all the tech backlash, state policymakers are taking swift action, some of which is warranted, but much of which bears signs of legislative haste.

Theoretical physicist Maria Goeppert Mayer was born #OTD in 1906. She shared the 1963 #Nobel Prize in Physics (w/Wigner & Jensen) "for their discoveries concerning nuclear shell structure." She was the second woman to win a Nobel in #physics. (Who was the first?) #WomenInSTEM
A classic black-and-white portrait photograph of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Maria Goeppert Mayer, taken in a classroom or lecture setting. She stands in front of a large chalkboard filled with handwritten nuclear physics equations, nuclear mass data, and element symbols (including notations like I¹²⁹, Cr⁵², and various alpha, beta, and gamma values). Goeppert Mayer has a thoughtful, focused expression as she gazes upward slightly, with her lips pursed in concentration. She wears a patterned dress with short-sleeved matching jacket with a geometric black-and-white design, a pearl necklace, and her hair styled in soft curls. In her hands, she holds a wooden slide rule.

Oxygen loss in the surface ocean does a number of biology. It's true now, and has been across geological history. Here's another example for that for trilobites during the SPICE event. 🧪⚒️ Link: doi.org/10.1130/G52200.1
Conceptual model of δ13Ccarb(carbonate) variation, development of low-oxygen conditions, sea-level changes, and trilobite turnover in the North China Platform during the SPICE event (modified after Wang et al., 2020). (A)Relatively well-oxygenated conditions, high sea level, low δ13Ccarb values, and a trilobite faunal assemblage dominated by endemic damesellids.(B) Deoxygenation alongside a drop in sea level and an increase in δ13Ccarbvalues (SPICE), and trilobite faunal assemblage replaced by the cosmopolitan deep-water trilobite taxa asaphids and leiostegiids. Compassion - What children want is to be noticed, listened to, valued, and included. If you show an interest, talk to them, show genuine concern, ask about their lives, talk to them honestly, and show them respect, then most of the time, that's what you'll get in return . . . (3) #edusky
