Cool work from Kate Adamala who uses the division mechanism I found during my years at the Max Planck of Colloids and Interfaces (and @dimovalab.bsky.social). Science is best when we share our insights and build on it.

Recent experimental work from my colleagues showing that halocline boundary layers restrict the movement of box jellyfish. A nice example of how observations in the field can be supported by AI-powered data analysis and models. www.uni-kiel.de/de/detailans... journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/...

In my lab we combine semiconductor technology with synthetic cells and today we came our goal a bit closer. In addition I always thought that membrane experiments should be done in a cleanroom because ultimately it's a surface science.

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.
"WE'VE ARRANGED A society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people don't know anything about it?"
"Science is more than a body of knowledge, it's a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along."

I think about this from @naomiaklein.bsky.social a lot. "Conspiracy theorists get the facts wrong but often get the feelings right." The sense that people are gaining wealth from human suffering while concealing reality is valid, but the root problem isn't evil people but the nature of capitalism.
Like my doppelganger projecting all of our surveillance fears on a vaccine app, conspiracy theorists get the facts wrong but often get the feelings right-the feeling of living in a world with Shadow Lands, the feeling that every human misery is someone else's profit, the feeling of being exhausted by predation and extraction, the feeling that important truths are being hidden.
