Kaede is laying on the ground on her side as she pulls herself free from unconsciousness, her eyes half lidded and her expression confused. As the veil of darkness lifts, she speaks.

"Ugh, my head... I feel like I've been hit by a chocobo cart... It's sweltering in here! Where am I?"

As she becomes increasingly aware of her strange surroundings, she bolts upright with a weary expression.

"Wait... I recognize this place! Isn't this where Hyacinth's wife said she had to fight that big fire lizard thing? A primal or something?"

Kaede begins to get up, starting on her knees and leaning forward to right herself. As the gravity of her situation dawns on her, her face shifts from confusion to terror.

Her deluge of anxiety is cut short as she finally lays eyes upon her supposed enemy.

Before Kaede stands Sunny, a small blue-tongue skink. He returns a suspicious glare through squinted eyes to Kaede's bewildered face.

They have not slept together since those precious, innocent days where Y'shtola was a watchman of Limsa Lominsa and Mharwyb was one more washed ashore with the rest. They've come far since then. This is no great surprise to Y'shtola.
She stepped from her cave the second she turned sixteen and has been walking ever since.
Mharwyb has done nothing but lock her knees and dig her heels into the dirt. She has tugged against the strings of fate. She has fled her debts but repeatedly stated that, were she not forced to keep moving, she would be nestled back home with a book and no great interest in the fate of the star.
When she was in Limsa Lominsa she spoke of Sharlayan and when she was in Ishgard she spoke of Sharlayan and when she was in Ala Mhigo she spoke of Sharlayan and when she was in The First she spoke of Sharlayan and then she was in Sharlayan, and Y'shtola saw that she was not sated. Her husband has paid the Studium Bursar and her Viera has forgiven her gambling debts. The star is at last at peace and piecing itself back together. Her beau's mansion is large and loving.
Her child shall be raised in the proper path of academics before her. Mharwyb has forged the simple, content Sharlayan life she has long desired. She has built this home brick by brick and then walked out the door to slip into Y'shtola's bed.

Y'shtola is no great moral force. She'd be worried if this was love, but it is not love, or elsewise an ongoing arrangement, but she will not allow that, so she lets Mharwyb quench her thirst for this single day. They will both wash their hands of it. Y'shtola is not snagged upon the nastiness of it. She has seen the prickle of unrest at Mharwyb's edges. She has seen Mharwyb grow carnivorous. She is more surprised at Mharwyb's selection than the act itself.
Mharwyb has been unsatisfied, but Y'shtola would have assumed she'd crawl naked and wanting to Thancred's doorstep first. Perhaps she had, and Thancred refused her, since he's such a damn good man now. Y'shtola is not so practiced at the illusion of the upstanding and Y'shtola does not have a stepfather of her child with which to keep civil.
Y'shtola has been unsatiated her whole life. Unlike Mharwyb, she has not pretended elsewise. Y'shtola locks her door and feasts upon simple pleasures, vanilla tarts and married women alike, and makes no apology to the powers that be. Mharwyb reins herself in every day but Y'shtola does not hold her tongue nor impulse. Y'shtola is a creature of instinct, no better than the cruel, racial depictions of Migo'te hunting and copulating with the instincts of animals. Y'shtola is no better than a prim tomcat who bites when pet wrong.

Mharwyb strokes the crisp, pale scar streaking down Y'shtola's chest. It trails from between her breasts to the soft meat of her right flank. Mharwyb is not quite asleep but far from present as she marks the line. Her eyes are distant and her face is sunk deep into a down pillow. She doesn't gaze at Y'shtola's chest. She feels it, tactile and unapologetic. She presses her fingerpads into the shiny ridge. She traces the healed wound left by a man who has not left her mind. She traces it, and traces it, and Y'shtola at last snaps her hand up to grip Mharwyb's fingers.
Y'shtola tsks her tongue at her. "That's enough," she says.
Mharwyb blinks, finally, and her eyes refocus. She says nothing. Her hand goes limp, so Y'shtola lets it drop.
Mharwyb tucks it back against her chest. She curls in on herself, bare and soft.
"Sorry," she mumbles.
Y'shtola exhales sharply. "You're not," she says,
"but you can think of him without reminding me of a rather bitter injury."
Mharwy curls deeper into herself. She's practically in a fetal position. She is over two heads taller than Y'shtola and bent into the shape of a guilty child.
"I'm hungry," Mharwyb whispers. "Can we go out to eat?"

It's broad daylight and the world is bustling and oh so very normal outside the room. Mharwyb is hungry, but no burger nor pizza will sate her. She could stuff herself until she's sick. She could choke.
It will not appease whatever breathes hot and sharp within her.
"I need to wash first," Y'shtola says. She resigns herself to a late lunch with Mharwyb because a salad does sound nice while they're pulling the thread of unsatisfying foods. Y'shtola has never felt full, not in the way of the dull-eyed men and women and professors of Sharlayan. They are content in their wealth. Master Louisoix was the first man Y'shtola ever met who needed to move as fast and far as she did, and look where it got both of them.
Y'shtola is a world saved and a stomach vacant and the daughter of a wanderlust mentor long, long dead. His dissatisfaction killed him and it will kill Y'shtola and it will kill Mharwyb, someday, too.
Y'shtola asks: "You are going to bolt, aren't you?"
Mharwyb is quiet. Y'shtola's attention falls upwards, to the ceiling. Mharwyb is so very quiet.
"I see," Y'shtola mutters. "Are you going to abandon the girl?"
There's a rustle of head in pillow and Y'shtola doesn't look back down but she knows when a head is being shaken at her.
"No?" Y'shtola asks.
"No," Mharwyb says.

In a dim room lit by candlelight, Ari straddles Erenville in a dreamlike haze. Her head is bowed and her eyes are closed, lost in the feeling of her partner.

She raises her head and opens her eyes, making eye contact with Erenville. Through stuttered gasps and sharp exhales she moans "Gods, Erenville, I lo-" Her sentence is cut off.

Ari startles awake with a gasp, now fully dressed in her pajamas, laying on her side alone in her bed holding a small plush toy resembling Erenville. The dreamlike haze is gone, as is the candlelight.

She curls up slightly with an embarrassed expression, pulling her plush closer to her body and squeezing it. As she averts her gaze from the viewer she says "I need to stop eating sweets before bed."
