Me, not reading the caption: Yeah, that does look like a late-90s haircut.

Reading the headline: Well, if it's just in the glaze that's silly but not actually that dangerous. Reading the story: Oh. Never mind.

I appreciate how happy the men they interviewed for the article seem to be with their reading. They found something they enjoy, and a community they can share that enjoyment with, and it enriches their lives.

Bluesy people who want to know more about medieval music! (I know you're out there.) My harp teacher is leading a month-long course on the subject, and you should take it, because she's very good: courses.ruzuku.com/courses/play...

True. There are so many genuine attempts at censorship, the people throwing a fuss about fictional animal deaths aren't really on the list of threats.

Honestly, I don't think something like DoesTheDogDie is the problem--if someone wants to know, they can look it up. The problem comes when people insist that nothing that would be on that site can ever be made, because those thing are Bad.

That reminds me of the time in college when the guy next to me in the computer room* played the song "All For One" from the Three Musketeers movie over and over until I finally asked if he was writing a paper on it. *I am not a recent graduate

The original post was about interviewees giving the impression of being excessively casual, and the iced coffee was an example. If you have enough pull as a candidate, or you don't care that much, you can do whatever, but people were hurting their chances by not being familiar with norms

I was faced with a similar situation recently, which I likened to having to explain why you can't make an airplane out of frogs. Like, it's so wrong, it's hard to start explaining how wrong it is.

Funny, at lunch today I was just hearing a young coworker talk about the time he hit a corner too fast on a bike with insufficient brakes, and how the fact he hadn't been wearing a helmet was why he ended up with a bunch of stitches in his scalp. Cars are a danger, but they aren't the only danger.

It was a link to a specific post that debunked the claim and linked to copious other references like the planning documents.
There's something weird going on with this Dobby pipeline story and I just cannot figure out what. I've seen so much discussion about it and there's just absolutely zero evidence for this actually happening aside from one little anecdote from a podcast.
It seems to have originated from this interview at 16:55 with Simon Ludlam, who was the project director for Greenlink. I've searched and searched and can't actually find any evidence of this interview he mentions, let alone any indication of there being backlash.
First of all, this happened years ago. The consultation was in 2018, the cable was laid starting in 2022, it was tested at the end of 2024, and it's been in use since the start of 2025.
The cable wasn't dug into the top of the beach, it was drilled horizontally underground (point 7 here). This has evidently been the case since at least October 2018, and from what I can tell the route under the beach did not change between then and October 2021 when it was finalised.
The archaeological survey was done in 2019, and the commitments to not go close to any of the archaeological sites was made in October 2020. From what I can tell it was also offshore, so it was more about the routing before the beach.
And finally, the part that imo makes this whole thing nonsense - Dobby's grave is on the south side of Freshwater West, and right from the earliest proposals I've been able to find (page 63, October 2018) the interconnect has come in through the north side.
From everything I can tell, this story is just completely false and it's all stemmed from one guy's embellishing of the truth for an anecdote on a podcast.
If there's any discussion that should be happening, it's the fact that there are 30 different public PDFs, and this absolutely insane 350 page behemoth of absolute waffle on every single possible detail that I'm fairly sure absolutely nobody will have read. There really is a point where planning consultation gets massively out of hand, lol.

What do you think consent is? If they tried and failed to reach the authors (which I don't believe for a minute), then they didn't get their permission to publish the work.
