the logic is effectively “it is old so it has historic character”
011
Sam @sspolzin.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
“character” is often a corollary of “this thing has existed for a while” cambridge’s historical body always just lists the people who have lived in a home when discussing whether a building is historically significant to the city “john the carpenter lived here. he was a union leader.” okay, so?

I don’t understand: 1. the seemingly vibes-based opposition to center-running lanes, 2. how curbside lanes are now good enough, 3. what Mayor Wu is about anymore, 4. what Boston’s transpo plan is.

The Wu administration and the T altered the latest design for Columbus Avenue to instead include side-running bus lanes in both directions between Jackson Square and Ruggles.

the alewife garage is also a transit project. it is good to have drivers stop there rather than drive into the city. the state provides inadequate transit service and is unserious about vmt reduction but these projects don’t make that point

this is a false equivalence. mbta fares don’t pay for the service either. but expecting riders to pay, particularly on the highest income mode, is not unreasonable. project costs and execution are a separate issue.

Cambridge passed citywide multifamily zoning last year. Now, more housing is being proposed in wealthy neighborhoods that had previously been protected by exclusionary zoning. This is exactly as intended by the City Council, and a key step towards correcting the city's geographic inequality.

The 9 Wyman Road project is not a fluke, it’s a sign of successful multifamily zoning
A housing project at 9 Wyman Road in West Cambridge and the reaction from neighbors demonstrates why uniform, citywide upzoning is more equitable than fragmented, piecemeal zoning reform. Before the passage of Cambridge’s Multifamily Zoning last February, 9 Wyman Road was zoned exclusively for “single-family dwellings.” Now,...
