The backstory: Ukrainian drones struck a Yandex supercomputer facility in Vladimir, taking it out. Suddenly, bot activity in US social media fell by 49%, confirming suspicions that this was the site of a massive Russian influence operation targeting US social media—mostly targeting MAGA.

During Cyber Legends 5 yesterday the Enterprise power supply played up. (Thanks to the loan of another 12V supply the machine otherwise worked well.) Testing this morning with a load shows that the output cap is dying. Spudged it open this morning, but unfortunately potted, but in soft putty. Hope?

After basically rewriting the lynx2wav conversion program I’ve at finally got a working version of Jet Set Willy to load on the Lynx 96 K recreation. The machine still has an issue reading the keyboard and in the game there’s minor corruption. Both probably symptoms of a timing issue.

There were sort of children’s programmes wrapper programme on a Saturday morning before Swap Shop but it was little more than a hidden presenter and a rubbish set. I remember one being called “Outer Space” which had a set seemingly made of silver tinsel.

Remember - they are calling it the EU KIDS Act so that if you raise objections to it (such as the inevitable need for everyone online to register with a govt ID so the platforms can identify the kids) you are then against the Kids.

Only five of those have passed through my hands. I stupidly gave away the 380Z in 2007. The Kaypro IV machines were passed on more recently.

I'm afraid that the video is couched incorrectly, targeting the wrong audience, i.e. the rich. The people who need to be convinced are the poor who have been indoctrinated by the rich who wish to control them by pointing at "The Other" and telling them that they're the enemy taking their resources

I must admit that having bacteria which can travel hundreds of light years to colonise star systems, as it seems the current tech suggests, is a bit of a push. Also, have oyu noticed that it seems to be the smallest potato worlds which seem to have the highest biological activity in game?

Creating game floppy images for the Enterprise 64/128 using an Atari ST, as you do. I have a lot of compilation floppy images on a USB drive and need to extract individual games I need for an event onto their own images. As the EXDOS system uses the standard 720K FAT12 format the ST works well.

BEWARE Vintage Computer buyers from outside US. Your stuff will be e-wasted! I bought an Epson PF-10 floppy drive from the US (I am in Canada) and as it travelled thru eBay Intl Shipping, it was "Liquidated" and I got a refund. Apparently a new US policy is the reason. kotaku.com/trumps-new-e...
This is tracking information informing me that my Epson PF-10 floppy drive "Did not pass Inspection" at the Ebay International Shipping hub and has been liquidated. Please see the news article link and pass this on so that at least some of this vintage computing equipment will not be e-wasted.

With the arrival of the joystick adapter PCBs the Enterprise hardware is all ready for ECM (Elite Community Meet) at the beginning of September. The next big task is to collate all the good games available, make a selection and put them onto a small number of images I can use with the Gotek.

The other main issue with the machine is the included BASIC, on plug-in ROM originally. IS-BASIC is extremely powerful. Apparently it's ANSI BASIC. However, it's very slow. Adrian Black's BASIC fractal benchmark gives a score a quarter of that of a BBC Micro when machine is faster than a Spectrum.

With respect to the keyboard, the biggest problem is that the key caps don't slide smoothly down their guides and can jam if not pressed directly from above, probably because of the relatively soft plastic that they're made from.

The problem in a nutshell:
The UK Government strove for years to foster “tech” capability in British childen, and — although the “safety” community will push this as a “platform” responsibility — either we’re going to have to leave the kids ignorant of tech, or-else they will be coding-up their own VPNs & other circumventions whilst we continue to blame “the tech” rather than “the society” for the risks that they face.

Responses to Your Next Observation
Banning childrens’ access to AI is just another form of “the ability to code is dangerous and must be suppressed amongst the youth” which leaves kids ignorant and unemployable

Calling this a “platform problem” (blame billionaires, etc) ignores that kids will just use foreign platforms instead, not to mention “build their own“

AIs can’t be magically prevented from working on “circumvention” because “circumvention” is the same as “accessing my home computer when I’m on holiday“

Other than the keyboard, which feels to be made from polythene, I’m quite impressed with the Enterprise. The graphics sub-system seems extremely programmable and, from the number of fast and seemingly easy Spectrum and CPC game ports looks to be able to handle both types of screen mode.

It's a Gotek floppy emulator (replaces a floppy, connecting to the original cable) housed in a 3D printed "hat" unit which is sitting on top of a cased floppy disk interface for the Enterprise 64 or 128 computer. The Enterprise 64/128 was a mid-80s British home computer which failed to sell in UK.
