Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

By all accounts she was a powerhouse, who genuinely cared for people. A sad loss.

In the AI goldrush, Nvidia are selling the shovels. But companies are now being given high valuations *because they've got a huge back order of shovels* "Trust me, bro. We're going to have so much gold the moment those shovels arrive. Some time next year. Bro, I need your money now."

I find this frustrating - what exactly would give you control? This is like the many leaders saying that Mandani couldn't make changes in New York. Brexit may have been a shitshow, but our politicians have had many choices to at least make things better. "Oh we couldn't do anything" is a lie.

As someone who lived through the 90's London clubbing scene in all its excess (IYKYK), it's depressing to me that twenty something years later the supposed smartest of the next generation do not understand basic respect and consent. Maybe they missed that class in college

Chrissie Hynde doing her stuff on TV and damn she's a legend. The world can do what it wants, and she's just going to keep on playing her music the way she like.

I once travelled for three hours to get to an interview (the recruiter badly misled me about how 'close' it was). The interviewer sat me in a windowless office, and offered me a drink. "Yes, please"... he returned a minute or two later with a plastic cup of water. No, I didn't take the job.

A few years ago I said Google was changing search to keep users within its platform rather than handing them over to websites. That was even before AI took off. Many IT professionals told me I was wrong and search was "better than ever". Now we're getting this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaZU...

OK, so I've sorted out tax and finances for now, so I can pay bills. That means I can hopefully pick up a bit of VideoBeast development after having to hold my breath for a couple of months. If I could just arrange to win the lottery, this would be a lot easier...

I'm outside of the games industry looking in and... oh boy. I've read articles stating the claims of collapse are overblown, and just as many people are employed now as ever... But to me it looks like a slow running car crash, with any sort of small or independent studio being eviscerated.

I'll watch SNL just for Ania Magliano and Paddy Young killing the news section. The rest feels weaker to me, I'm not a fan of sketches that don't know how to end - there's a feel of "this is a funny thing to do, so let's do it until people laugh". But then they hit a note and off we go again..

Enshittification - convince everyone they can provide a service purely supported by adverts, then collapse the advertising market so that they earn no money. Then watch as people convince themselves that endlessly hopping from one failing free service to the next is normal.

Not just nice to hear - vital to hear. This is what those "legitimate concerns" seek to conceal - families being driven out of their homes by bigots.

I've just realised that a portion of the enthusiasm for AI comes from the same people who evangelically embraced the Filofax. There's a dream that your life is so full of *stuff* that if only you could organise it you would be efficient, successful and one of those cool guys with a digital watch.

I'm based in the UK, but Mitch McConnell keeps turning up in my timeline... like a ghost. Gotta say though that the little bit of video of him recently seems to show a guy with an expression that says, "You have no idea how much drugs they've pumped into me. I can taste the colour of music!"

Ah. The penny drops. Of course they want to talk up dangers of catastrophic AI. It's the obvious step to banning local AI models ("they could destroy the world!") which would otherwise be an existential threat to the guys who're spending trillions on datacentres. "Trust us to run it, we're safe!"

This might be going against the grain, but the accounts excitedly talking up the devolved nations leaving the UK seem to be wilfully ignoring the mess they've made of devolved matters, and the global problems we face. How about we fix the house before we try annexing the bedrooms?

Hold music that keeps on cutting out and pausing as though your call has just been put through, only to replay the same "Thanks for waiting" message every 20 seconds or so... National government service can't even give a waiting time estimate.

A common feature of all of the abusive individuals, politicians and corporations we currently seem to be surrounded by is that there is absolutely no consequence to them whatsoever for their abuse. Our legal, financial and political systems have calcified into immobility.

The irony here being that the BBC strenuously attempts to "both sides" nearly every debate, resulting in them giving a disproportionate amount of time to cranks, activists and liars who've built an entire industry around legitimising niche viewpoints.

I (briefly) mixed in a niche slightly celebrity group, which for a decade or so was a weak claim to fame. These days though I'd have to prefix every other story with "Of course, he's been accused/convicted of awful things since then." And I wouldn't dare vouch for the others because what do I know?

The extent to which the UK has destroyed its mobile workforce is insane. In the war against contractors, a contractor earning the same salary as the equivalent senior role is likely paying double the tax. Double. And most of that is passed on to the employer as a cost. We're taxing expertise.

[RACIST ACADEMICAL]
I am the very model of a racist academical,
With footnotes and citations to make bigotry seem credible,

I traffic in ideas that have long since been discredited,
Like human races being real and IQ is inherited!

I’ll sign an open letter that legitimates my bigotry,
My gender ideology is thuggery and piggery,

If criticized it’s academic freedom I will hide behind,
My high and mighty principles shan’t be questioned by your tiny mind!
