Upcoming secure bicycle parking rack at Nandanam metro station #Chennai. Not exactly sure how cycles are expected to be anchored to it, but I suppose we'll find out soon. Just happy to see some explicit accommodation for cycles.
Photo of (work in progress) cycle parking rack consisting of black railings against a red grill with zome motorcycles parked to the right alongside the rack.

Dear @erc.europa.eu , we DO already have common standards & frameworks. 'AI' likes to pose itself as 'special' but we do not need to reinvent the wheel. We already have established codes of conduct for research integrity. We just need to apply them. See below + more resources in thread🧵
Protecting the Ecosystem of Human Knowledge: Five Principles
We must protect and cultivate the ecosystem of human knowledge. AI models can mimic
the appearance of scholarly work, but they are (by construction) unconcerned with truth
— the result is a torrential outpouring of unchecked but convincing-sounding “informa-
tion”. At best, such output is accidentally true, but generally citationless, divorced from
human reasoning and the web of scholarship that it steals from. At worst, it is confidently
wrong. Both outcomes are dangerous to the ecosystem.
Olivia Guest, Iris van Rooij, Marcela Suarez, et al. (2025, n.p.)
Knowledge production is supposed to be safeguarded by (inter)national codes of conduct for research
integrity (ALLEA 2023; KNAW et al. 2018). Such codes forbid, for instance, fabrication of data,
falsification of results, plagiarism, and, generally, distortion of the scientific record. Many argue that
new rules are required to regulate academic AI use, but pre-existing guidelines fit the bill (cf. Tafani

Sometimes all it takes is a change of font on the terminal to feel wonderful and light - this time it is just the default font "SF Mono Terminal Regular" - the default terminal font on macos tahoe. Not sure how long this flirt will last, but am surely enjoying the moment.

A variant of this also plays out here - where people post something sans context, assuming their audience knows what they're talking about. No link, no post ref, nothing. Its a way of excluding some audience I suppose, but it saddens me nevertheless.

I admit it. I'm here for great-cycling-infra-porn. Bring it on. Hopefully #Chennai will have an opportunity to move in that direction once the metro works start wrapping up and clearing up our roadways. In a couple of years, hopefully. Then I say we push for cycling and walking infra!

we have an analogy today perhaps - LLMs are useful not because we have one for math, one for python, one for english poetry, one for chemistry etc. It's all mushed into one with varying levels of competence and that mushing is what's of value. We can't get such independent things to be as useful.

Ted Chiang's metaphor of an LLM as a "blurry jpeg of the internet" sort of captured it for me. The picture needs to evolve with human input for it to be useful, somewhat like the internet itself, except now there is another corporation inserted in between.

It's pretty neat that claude code works rather well with fossil-scm and uses its ticket system as memory and TODO list quite well. Now if the ticket content can be semantically indexed so they can be RAGged in, that could keep context requirements low throughout.

Awesome .. and 3% of NYC are DoorDash workers? wow! Something like about 1 DD worker for every 10 families? Swiggy apparently has ~50k workers across India. That's < 1/10th of NYC even if you assume they're all in one city like Chennai.

Category theory folks - what materials did you use to learn category theory in the first place? I ask because I've had serious trouble gaining proficiency with it, with many starts under my belt. It feels like the payoff per vocabulary item internalized is really low. At what point does it ignite?
