Painting of a heavy demon-like figure carrying a huge mace in one hand and a thurible belching green smoke in the other. Its head is obscured beneath a rusted dome perforated with holes, also emitting a noxious fug.

Another illustration for my personal project. The Oathbreaker
Painting of a badass fantasy female fighter with an impractically large, but cool, sword. She is wearing armor on one side, has pink hair, and is covered in scars.

It’s very straightforward: I don’t need to pay devs anymore because I can use generative AI, which admittedly we know players don’t like. Fortunately that’s not an issue because nobody can afford consoles anymore, because of inflated prices due to AI. Let’s invest in AI. - a very clever businessman

On Facebook Jesper Myrfors had posted this and saw he's not on Bluesky so I wanted to copy & paste it here. I may not have many connections, but this means enough to me where I feel every little bit counts. There is one more paste in the comments, too, so please share! #mtgartist #magicthegathering
To all the MTG artists who still own the right to their work: The problem with Hasbro is that they bought into a hobby game community with no understanding of what a community is. The people who make D&D, the people who made MTG made it for themselves, their friends and people like them meaning fellow gamers. It was about shared experience and having fun together. I cannot speak on the business of D&D but I very much can soeak on the business of MTG. Artists were hired and treated as important and vaulable members of the community. It was the goal fo the compant that those artists should see a benefit from the work they did long term. After all, they helped create the game in a very meaningful way. That is why royalties were paid and meant to be paid for the life of the game whenever that art was used. Then the suits came in. These people were not part of the community, they were not part of the hobby and all they wanted was to profit from the hard work and vision of thers. Royalties went away so empathy imared wuits could take the money instead. New art was sommissioned so royalties would no longer have to be paid. It was a giant FU to all the people who made the game what it is from a visual standpoint. It gets worse. Then came Hasbro. Hasbro is a billion-dollar multinational corporation. To my mind, they do not care about anything but money. They do not care about the lives of the people who made their current position possible, they do not care about their customers and the certainly to not care about the hobby or the community. They are in my opinion, a relentless eating machine that will devour anything to increase the bottom line. They are the ultimate consumer. They consume joy, creativity, the lives of those who make their products and the very community they rely on for their paychecks. They will not stop. They see this as how you do business. Get all you can regardless of who it hurts. That is not how a community works. That is modern capitalism. That is what destroys society. The idea that a rising tide should raise all ships is completely alien to them. How can they see themselves as winners if there are other boats on the water? Watching others drown is their idea of success. Sadly, many people have bought into this idea. If you don’t make ALL the money you are not successful. If someone else can afford to live then you failed as a business person. We see it all over this very broken country.
They have an army of attorneys who can live with their actions because they are “Just following orders” making it possible. Individually, that is hard to go up against. It has been my experience that Hasbro deals in bad faith and will attempt to get what they cannot bargain for through legal trickery. Be very careful signing anything they ask you to sign and get legal advice. I have personal experience with this. Better yet, sign nothing. More on that below. How they chose to release the 30th anniversary set at $1,000 for 4 booster packs shows they have nothing contempt for their audience. Once again, they do not see it as a community. They see their audience as livestock they have they bought the right to harvest when they wish for their true customers, the shareholders. For those of you who still own the rights to your artwork. Hang onto those rights. You are the only place that Hasbro can get those rights and they, in my experience, will try to take advantage you. Do not let them. That artwork is valuable, very valuable. Hasbro would love to make millions off of that work as toys, action figures, movies, tv show, video games and any manner of future products, and collectables/landfill. You, as the creator of that work should get a fair slice of that pie. Stick to your guns, hold on to your royalties. If it comes down to accepting a laughable offer or getting nothing. Take the nothing because at least you will still have those very valuable rights.
You as the artist are free to profit from that old work within reason and it can be very profitable. Do not give it away. You are not allowed to use that work in another game. GAME. That leaves a lot of things free to be exploited. You may not be able to use the name of the artwork for copyright and trademark reasons but the designs? The artwork? Those are yours, they do not belong to Hasbro unless you sell to them. We live in a world of 3d printing, you can make your own limited edition action figures or toys, prints, posters, screen savers, puzzles, playmats, mousemats, the list goes on and on, this includes products and future tech no one has thought of yet. You may not have Hasbro’s reach but again, you are the ONLY place those items can be found legally. You own the right to make them. I say those rights are not worth selling for anything less than a fair price.
When musicians sell their back catalogues, they make a lot of money. Keep that energy. 30th anniversary was a colossal and laughable failure but it was not the only chance they will have at a milestone "celebration". There is a 40th Anniversary coming up and a 50th. Mark my words, you will be hearing from Hasbro and they will try to get you to part with those rights, Make it worth your while. You owe Hasbro nothing, they owe you their very success in hobby gaming.
Here is the most important point. They can afford it. They have more money than they know what to do with. At no point feel sorry for them.
When I went to work for WotC I told them upfront that I saw my job as protecting the artists who made our company possible as much as I was there to protect the company. I did not see those two things as different because it was a rising tide that would raise all ships. I saw having a good trusting relationship with the creative minds whose vision made my job possible as a great benefit to all concerned.
I still stand by what I said then only now there is no company I wish to protect as they made their choice to side with greed and I cannot get behind that, so I am left standing only with my fellow artists. Please look after yourselves, do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of.
To that end I suggest we stand together and pool our resources. Hasbro will win through enforced silence, through divide and conquer.
They will contact us individually to make a “secret deal”. They will do their best to make it impossible to communicate with each other concerning these buyouts. We should unite and make them deal with us as a group. Do not sign any document that limits your ability to talk with other artists about a buyout.

When Tango and Arkane Austin got whacked last year, I called it cultural vandalism. This is too, of course, but I have a simpler description for it. This is loser shit. Phil Spencer has spent ten years and, at a conservative estimate, eighty billion dollars taking Xbox from last place to last place, and now the game is up he is systematically dismantling the largest and most powerful videogame business the world has ever seen like he’s on some anti-Brewster’s Millions shit, torching the legacies of endless cherished studios and game series while trying to convince us all that everything is going to plan. He is fucking useless and it is all absolutely pathetic, though that doesn't make it any easier to witness. A quarter of a century ago, Microsoft entered the videogame industry with an eye on global domination. Today it is merely a stain on it.
