From 1.5C to 2C of global warming is an increase by 33.3 percent. Many people assume that the negative impacts of this would also increase by only 33.3 percent. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The increase is non-linear. This is one of the biggest missing pieces in public climate literacy.

Line graph time series of global mean surface temperature anomalies for each September from 1850 through 2024. There is a long-term increasing trend and large year-to-year variability. The mean surface temperature anomaly in October 2024 was 1.32°C globally. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1901-2000 climate baseline. Data from NOAAGlobalTemp v6.0.0.

Friday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the 3rd lowest on record (JAXA data) • about 390,000 km² below the 2010s mean • about 1,070,000 km² below the 2000s mean • about 1,700,000 km² below the 1990s mean • about 2,140,000 km² below the 1980s mean Plots zacklabe.com/arctic-sea-i...
Line graph time series of 2024's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with white for the 1980s, green for the 1990s, blue for the 2000s, and purple for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2002 to 2022. 2024 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between September and December by looking at the decadal average line positions.

Checkpoint 15 November: World temperature anomaly stands close to +0.80C vs 1991/2020 ,rising sharply from the previous months and similar to the November 2023 anomaly. After just a couple of month below 2023, we are returning to 2023 levels, which was totally unexpected in early forecasts.
