A girl or woman should be able to fall asleep in any state in the company of any man she trusts & expect to be left the hell alone, or cared for if she’s unwell, or awoken & brought home safely. The fact that this is not the expectation is fucking ludicrous. Men can & should be better.

e-bikes are harder to control than just a bike — they are faster plus they are heavier so it is harder to stop or maneuver. You can tell yourself that it’s just a little extra juice, it’s only pedal-assist, or 28 mph isn’t that fast. It’s more complicated than that. www.revzilla.com/common-tread...

Stepping back, my main objection is not so much at the Times does pieces like this. Instead, it is that they and others don’t cover more substantive stories of government reform (I give some examples).
But think about the incentive structure for politicians. If media attention goes to failures rather than successes, the incentives are to avoid failures: don't rock the boat, don't take risks, don't try something with an uncertain payoff. Avoid blame at all costs.
This makes investing their time in the details of government a relatively poor bet for politicians.
The details are too wonky, administrative processes are difficult to explain, the time required to master the topic is too great, the time required to see results is too long, and the potential for failure is high. All of this makes a political payoff is too unlikely.

I spoke with Nepal's Foreign Minister Khanal this morning about their search-and-rescue efforts, including the urgent efforts to locate our missing citizens. The @StateDept is quickly deploying $500,000 in assistance to flood-affected communities while @USEmbassyNepal is coordinating with local authorities on efforts to assist U.S. nationals. The United States stands with the people of Nepal during this difficult time and will continue to support relief and recovery efforts.

To use these bases again, we will have to radically improve our air defense and counter-UAS capability in the region. Advanced air defense systems don’t grow on trees. The problem then becomes math: where do you pull from to protect the Gulf States? There’s not a good option.
