From a poetry collection by Mary Oliver, where after a hundred poems showcasing gentle observations on nature and animals, she hits you with this
OF THE EMPIRE
We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

The fact that breaking won't be in the 2028 LA Olympics is ridiculous. Ditch golf, or dressage.

It's not surprising, but still incredibly disappointing, that an institution like the New York Times would so consistently choose to present the world not as it is, but as Donald Trump wants it to be.

Someone having a billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke. We should try to prevent the former from happening with as much effort and intensity as we attempt to prevent the latter.

you can't get more right than this RIP 👑
steve albini posts from 2022 responding to a guy saying 20 year olds should kill themselves working:

if you're working for somebody else, this is awful advice. in your 20s you're made out of rubber and nothing leaves a dent. live your fucking life drink all the drinks take all the drugs fuck anyone who'll have you stay up all night. don't work a single minute off the clock.

you'll have the next sixty years to buckle down and be a professional, and by the time they give you your gold watch you won't have a mushroom guy in your phone any more. I'm going to be 60 in a few weeks and I regret every hour of my life i traded for wages like I was robbed.

You reach a point where a friend dies and you say: sixty-one! that so young. When you are in your twenties and struggling that point is hard to visualize - you feel like forty more years will be too much. May all who struggle today live in the hope of knowing that sixty-one is so young, so young.

What makes anything interesting, music, art, writing... is freaks. The weirdest people on the scene. NFTs, crypto, blockchain fabulists, that scene top to bottom is the dullest, most square, lecture-you-about-markets dudes on earth. Not just not-queer but not-weird in any way at all. Paste.

BROTHER ASSASSIN (1978) Acrylic on Illustration Board - 30" x 20" I am often kidded about my general dislike for yellow; but sometimes it insists on dominating a color scheme and to make matters worse--it works! 1/2
Wearing brown robes with hood drawn up, a robot with an oddly asymmetrical face stares squarely at the viewer as it grips a clock in its clawed grasp. The face is black with gold numbers, but the glass is broken. The hands are stopped at 3:53. A metal grate covers the robot's left eye and half the mouth. That side of the face resembles the steely mask of Doctor Doom, while the other side is an abstraction of lights and circuitry over silver metal. A blue light, cloudy like a planet, is placed where the other eye socket should be. Four bright green dots border form the points of a rectangle around it. Below the cheek—bearing no resemblance to a human feature—a pink sphere with light polka dots floats in blue-black field constrained by an oval bevel. The right side of its mouth is tall instead of wide contrasting the left with the bottom of the metal grate recessed and tinted red. A curving antenna sweeps down off the side of its forehead following the contour of the bell-shaped hood. Th

The @DeltaGreenRPG does very well because of our fans. We have kicked crazed right-wingers from our #community since the 1990s. I’ll let you in on a little secret: the “vast conservative buying public” doesn’t exist. Boot them from your community. Your fans will thank you.
