6- Never give inside information about your process/ work method to your editor/ art director/ project manager. It's none of their business if you use a flatter, use a different software, only work nights, etc. As long as you hit your deadlines and the work looks good, no one needs too much info.

5- Diversify your income streams as much as possible. If one of those income streams glitches and you don't have another one lined up, you can get really screwed.

4- When an editor/ art director brings you in to help get a project out on time, it is not a guarantee of future work. You will not be able to do your best work under these conditions and are only hired based on how the last job came out, not the conditions you worked under to get it done on time.

2- Not everyone loves the collaborative nature of comics. Some people get into comics (from working in other media or just have an idea for the next hit "Spider-Man" property) to have their ego stroked and just want someone to carry out THEIR vision. They're not looking for a creative partner. 🚩🚩🚩🚩

I've been working in comics for over 30 years (as an editor, artist, writer, but mostly as a colorist), and I've learned some stuff. 1- Teach people how to treat you. Working harder for a publisher/ editor doesn't always mean they treat you better. This is a work arrangement, not love or validation.

Pushing out pros like this will make it more of a pop culture con with very little comics content at some point (soon). The prices of pro badges (which should be free) is insane. The increase in prices for Artist Alley tables is insane.
