Just replied to the OP but I’m working on a clients app now and they will be accessible. I’m also training their team, driving shift left strategy, and developing a maturity model leveling roadmap with core service and codesign (not participatory) aligned with harm reduction principles. 🎉

When you say anti-corporate privacy nerds, I’m not seeing conflict with the groups I mentioned. I’m not saying go back to it because of that, it sounds like leadership is compromised. I’m saying that whether ill or good intended, privacy and security is likely the driving factor for people using it.

It’s also the favorite email of people requiring or wanting privacy and encryption overall - it’s used by social organizers, esp for LGBTQIA+ and Sex Worker support orgs. I suspect the uptick is more to do with people seeking privacy in case some of the threats of retaliation become material.

Further, seeing interpreters in TV is common in many other countries. People in the US "annoyed" by seeing ASL on TV need to check their privilege -- know what's more annoying than seeing ASL on tv? Being locked out of the information BECAUSE YOU CAN'T HEAR.
