When will Andy Burnham address the real north south divide, which is the difference in mobility equipment suppliers I've had a Triride which is completely unsafe to use for a month now because the company has one (1) engineer covering everything north of Luton (including Scotland and Wales)

Over at @disabledstudentsuk.bsky.social we're responding to the DfE consultation about cutting DSA assistive tech support in a few ways, so I thought I'd put them in a thread!

Do we think the library will be any cooler than my room tomorrow because I think if I have to try and have coherent thoughts while it's 25 degrees INSIDE again I might burst into flames

We're playing basketball outside atm because the school are using the sports hall for exams* and this weather made that real interesting so today I have gained: - An injured finger - Sunburnt legs - The best mid game photo of me to ever exist

(obligatory disclaimer: I am truly just complaining, if you're staff at my uni you don't have to try and solve this for me) at some point since I last needed an extension my department changed their policy and now the two options are: -1 week -defer to august and I just have too much ADHD for this

half my facebook feed is motability issues atm, I keep looking in the comments and seeing "I won't be renewing my lease I'll be getting a secondhand car" or similar and as someone who will probably never be able to drive with pedals, and is therefore tied to motability, I am sooooo bitter

Niche SFE question for the crowd A friend started a PhD full time, then dropped down to part time (about a year in), then dropped out entirely (about a year later). Uni didn't tell SFE this on time so she got overpaid £2000. When on the phone to SFE, they've decided she actually owes £5000-

People who have been researchers in archives before - visiting one for the first time tomorrow, what do I do when I want to eat lunch? Leave the reading room and come back? Have only ever been in them as a volunteer before and it just occurred to me I had no idea about this 😅

Living in York is such a funny experience because last weekend town was full of Vikings and this weekend it's full of morris dancers and I just accepted that at face value

On today's edition of mundane ableism which gradually wears you down: I'm supposed to be at a departmental seminar I was really looking forward to right now, but I'm not because the main entrance of the lecture theatre has steps and the accessible entrance has no sign or marking at all

someone I was talking to earlier said "access clash" to refer to conflicting access needs and I love that wording because it sounds like the two disabled people with conflicting access needs should do like a rock paper scissors to decide who gets accommodated

It's genuinely comically bad how non-disability services wellbeing staff seem to have 0 disability training whatsoever, even when their roles put them in disproportionate contact with disabled students I've never had an interaction with one without something WILD being said and it sucks tbh

Partner and I have been very much enjoying the Winter Olympics this week but after watching the Big Air final yesterday we can't stop wondering how the coaches get down from the slope? Do they skii down and we just don't get to see it on TV?

Asking for a friend - If you were a perfect fit for a job, but it required one day in office per week, and the travel wouldn't be sustainable once a week (probably manageable fortnightly) because of disabilities, would you 1) email before applying 2) apply and mention it at interview 3) other

Guys do you think it's ever possible that we'll be able to turn the tide on the general public saying "the wheelchair" rather than "wheelchair user" or is that just a lost cause

One of the many weird things about being a wheelchair user is you seem to also become a pro-wheelchair propaganda machine by default To the strangers who make pitying comments, to the people in disability groups who think it's giving up, etc etc

Looking through the Annual Disabled Student Survey qualitative answers at the moment to add some to the report and it is unsurprising but deeply bleak how many people's answer to "what do you want your institution to do moving forward" is "their minimum legal duty"

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

My essay for this module is about coloniality in Scouting and Guiding, I had literally just got out of a tutorial in which I said I'm considering rejoining Girlguiding as a leader and discover they've banned trans girls?? Consider that idea jettisoned I guess

If you are eligible for the mobility component of PIP, you can spend *your own money* topping that up to have a great accessible car. Critics should ask: Why are you against this? What it is about disabled people that makes you believe it’s wrong to have nice things they paid for themselves?
