On this day 155 years ago the #GreatChicagoFire began. This was the pivotal event that turned a basic big water to rail port city into the great modern city it is today. Out of the fire came the first modern Skyscraper and with it the introduction of the Chicago School of architecture.

I lucked out & had a few RAs in college that like me & my floor mates. We had a couple of mobility challenged people & few times the RAs suggested we go out to a bar after dinner. We got back just as the elevators were put back in service. Saved us walking down then back up 12 stories.

Just had an employee (let’s call them DD) ask where my other employee went to. He had taken a 1/2 day PTO and left at Noon (5 hours ago). DD did not realize that, even though their cubicles are in the same room 15 ft apart and tried to start up a conversation several times with no responses.

Spooky bird stories. My Halloween comic from 2024.

A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??" In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!". In panel 3, A screech owl is telling a story to other owls. It says "And then the ghost fluffed itself up really big to appear scarier." A saw-whet owl gasps, and a long-eared owl says "Horrifying!". In panel 4, a downy woodpecker is telling a story to other woodpeckers, and says "The eerie sound rang through the dark woods. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. It was the distinctive two-part knock of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The species had returned from the dead... FOR REVENGE." A red-cockaded woodpecker says "Yesss".

Two kitties are sitting snuggled up to each other on a bench in an old Victorian park at night. They are clearly in love. Their first meeting was just in passing as they made their nightly rounds in the gardens. As the nights progressed so did their interest in each other. Curiosity led to friendship, friendship led to affection, and love slowly blossomed. They’re now inseparable and make the rounds together. This is their favourite spot, watched over by curious crows.

We’re in the middle of autumnal woods and the leaves are falling. Our cat friend has been enjoying a solitary, undisturbed meander amongst the trees, savoring the sights, sounds, and smells, when a rather bold leaf has the temerity to land on and stick to the middle of his face. Such undignified effrontery! He is clearly quite consternated. A rather bemused little bird looks on from a safe distance in the branches above.

Rendered in black ballpoint pen & coloured pencil on toned paper. The leaf is the only thing in the drawing that’s in colour.

Ooooh myyyy godddd! I am never climbing under a normal desk again to set up a pc. My new standing desk is in place and it was soooo f-ing easy to plug everything in when I didn’t have to get on my hands and knees to climb under there. Just set it to the top and get under there, plenty of room.
