My problem with the White House thunderdome isn’t that it’s “vulgar,” or “tacky,” qualities I often enjoy & terms which are often crudely classist when used pejoratively. My problem, as always, is the fascism. Don’t get distracted by taste, which is deeply subjective; it’s the fascism.

This was at our East Cobb (GA) precinct at 4:50pm when my husband walked up. He was pissed, waited 1.5 hours to vote. He saw at least 20 people take one look at that line and walk away. Only two of the seven check in machines were working, poll workers said they had been calling all day. #gapol

Incredible exhibit Threads of Change at Museum of Design ATL, highlight of the weekend for sure. Scientific data interpreted through fiber arts. If you have the chance to see any work by Sandra Sawatsky, Christine/Margaret Wertheim, Adrian Baker, Nathalie Miebach or Bonnie Peterson, do so!
16,000 hours of incredibly detailed embroidery work. This is just two of the eight panels. Description from MODA — Black Gold Tapestry by Sandra Sawatzky: A detailed visual narrative tracing humanity’s complex relationship with oil.Wry sculptures that take some objectively awful things (hurricane sandy, sailors death at sea) and present the data in a totally unexpected way. From MODA description — Nathalie Miebach: Data-driven sculptures inspired by weather and environmental phenomena.Hard pressed to say which of the installations I loved the most, but these are incredible. The artists are twin sisters — one is a science writer, and one is a poet, and it’s obvious that sometimes you need the innate brain of the one to excel at the other. From MODA — Crochet Coral Reef by Margaret and Christine Wertheim: A stunning representation of ocean ecosystems under threatFrom MODA description — Geoscience Embroideries by Bonnie Peterson: Vibrant works that translate climate and geoscience data into tangible art
