Trump has announced what he calls a ‘historic’ deal over Greenland, but how much of it is actually new? Many of its key elements simply build on arrangements the US has already had for decades. With the US midterms just over six weeks away, Republicans are struggling in the polls.

Great to talk to @lbc.co.uk's Vanessa Feltz just now about the new deal between Greenland, Denmark and the US📻 Is the deal really new? Who came out on top? And what are they saying in Denmark and Greenland?

‼️ A deal has been reached between Greenland, Denmark and the US ‼️ Very few details so far on the specifics, but it sounds oddly similar to the 1941 defence treaty between Denmark and the US… Some quick reflections below🧵

The UK has launched its new Africa strategy. @sofiepultz.bsky.social says it’s a welcome attempt to redefine what the UK has to offer African countries, but cuts to aid and the FCDO risk leaving the government without the capacity to deliver 👇
The UK's new Africa Approach is a welcome attempt to redefine the UK’s relationship with African countries in a changing world. Strong partnerships with African nations are essential if the UK is to meet its climate goals, address shared security challenges and benefit from future investment opportunities across a young, fast-growing continent.

But cuts to the aid budget and a potential 30 per cent reduction in the Foreign Office workforce risk leaving the government without the capacity to deliver this new partnership-led approach. The direction is right - but it will only succeed if backed by the resources to make it happen.
