The Chancellor is constrained, but he's not powerless. There’s still plenty of room for big reform. In the upcoming Budget he should fix property taxes and capital gains tax to make them fair, boost growth, and give the government revenue. 📺 @harryqp.bsky.social on @news.sky.com 👇

‼️ A deal has been reached between Greenland, Denmark and the US ‼️ Very few details so far on the specifics, but it sounds oddly similar to the 1941 defence treaty between Denmark and the US… Some quick reflections below🧵

Trump declares victory in historic deal with Greenland as he secures 'permanent' US military rights
Donald Trump struck a sweeping deal with Denmark and Greenland granting the U.S. permanent military basing rights on the strategically vital Arctic island.

👵💷 Should pensioners pay more tax? As Britain ages, the cost of pensions, healthcare and social care will rise by billions. We can’t keep asking younger workers to pick up the bill. @harryqp.bsky.social says it’s time to shift tax away from work and towards wealth.

1/ Morgan McSweeney admitted last week that Labour “hadn’t done enough to prepare for government”. He is right. Labour were very serious about winning, but much less serious about governing. After 15 years in opposition, that was inexcusable 🧵 harryquilterpinner.substack.com/p/preparing-...

What would an Andy Burnham premiership actually look like? @harryqp.bsky.social argues that the real test isn't Manchesterism itself, but knowing which constraints on government are real, and which are self-imposed. Read it on Substack now 🗞️ harryquilterpinner.substack.com/p/the-realis...

A northern base for Number 10 would be a powerful symbol. To make it count, it needs to be backed by real power for regions from day one. Ahead of Andy Burnham's speech, @harryqp.bsky.social explains what that should look like. 📻️ BBC Radio 4 Today 👇

Tony Blair is right that Labour needs a serious debate about its future, but that debate can’t just be about the solutions of the past. Simply returning to the economic model of the 1990s won’t answer today’s challenges. 📺 @harryqp.bsky.social on BBC News 👇

Stunned, appalled, shocked etc to see actual tax reform from a politician. This from Wes Streeting today. A thread on why capital gains tax is broken. It's too low AND too high. & why this is a good proposal.

For the government, questions about Mandelson should focus on two things. First, the victims. Second, the fundamental issue of trust in politics. This isn't a case of "one bad apple" - the relationship between money and power needs to be addressed 📺 @harryqp.bsky.social on #politicslive👇

Blaming net zero policies for rising bills is completely unfounded. They have soared mainly because of global conflict and gas prices. But there is a fairer way to cut costs by shifting levies off bills and onto progressive taxation. 🎥@harryqp.bsky.social on #politicslive 👇

Support in mainstream schools has been hollowed out. Help often only comes once a child qualifies for an EHCP — by then, it’s crisis point. Earlier intervention means more kids get support sooner — better for families and better for the taxpayer. 📺 @harryqp.bsky.social on BBC News👇
