Yesterday, ICE agents shot, wounded, and abducted Oscar Belgal. When the community gathered in solidarity, they were met with police violence. We say no more. ICE out of New York. Abolish ICE. End NYPD violence and complicity.

A new report from the Center for New York City Affairs at The New School affirms what we already knew: that corporations and the ultra rich are taking more from our economy than ever. Working people create more wealth, but our wages stay stagnant. New York must tax the rich.

NYC-DSA’s statement on the Cornell 7
New York City DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America
STATEMENT ON THE CORNELL 7
Cornell University has failed in its obligation to protect its students. The conditions at Cornell are not unique; more than 1 in 5 women will be assaulted during their time in college. Title IX offices should be protecting the most vulnerable; instead they are designed to protect the university, prioritizing donor retention over student safety.New York City
DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America
From 2018 through 2024, Cornell University reported more than 1,200 incidents of sexual violence. From those incidents, only 7 people were expelled or dismissed. Lack of a response is a response - by refusing to hold perpetrators accountable, Cornell has implicitly endorsed rape on its campus and allowed perpetrators of gender based violence access to power without consequence. New York City
DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America
NYC-DSA commends Jane Doe's bravery and strength in pursuing justice, and the editors of the Cornell Sun in their rejection of inaction and silence.
We echo the demands of our comrades in Cornell YDSA, Cornell Grad Students United, and Students for Justice in Palestine at Cornell:
• Abolish all Intrafraternity Council (IFC) Greek Life at Cornell;
• Expel enrolled perpetrators, and revoke the degrees of those already graduated;
• And fire or require the resignation of Cornell Senior Administrators Michael Kotlikoff, Ryan Lombardi, Brian White, Robert Harrington, Kavita Bala, and Christinia Liang.Additionally, we advocate for State Senator Julia Salazar's Healthy and Safe Students Act, which would bring sex & consent education to our school systems - an approach that is already proven to reduce incidences of violence by as much as 60% - and would reimagine our cultural norms around consent and accountability.

The 2027 City Budget is a milestone for socialist governance and a big step to building the city we deserve. Socialists in office are proving that we can reject austerity and invest in the working people who make NYC. And the work is just getting started.
New York City DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America Statement on the FY27 City Budget
BUILDING THE CITY
WE DESERVE
Mayor Mamdani's first budget represents a milestone for socialist governance in New York City. In the face of Governor Kathy Hochul's refusal to support the popular demand to raise taxes on millionaires and corporations, the Mayor pushed to reset our city's relationship with Albany, securing some of the revenue our city is owed by the state and successfully eliminating a historic budget deficit leftover from Eric Adams's administration. Instead of closing the gap by slashing programs, this budget cuts wasteful contracts with private companies.
We know, however, that much work remains to be done - in New York City and Albany - to achieve the fully-funded city we deserve.New York City
DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America
The Mayor and progressive Council Members - including City Socialists in Office Alexa Avilés, Tiffany Cabán, Shahana Hanif, and Chi Ossé - have rejected the austerity that has marked city spending for decades. This budget provides stable, permanent funding for parks and libraries and billions for universal childcare. It increases rental subsidies for the lowest-income New Yorkers and, in the capital budget, commits over $5 billion to build affordable housing and $5.6 billion to NYCHA. Thanks to the Progressive Caucus's advocacy, it includes $175 million for CityFHEPS rental vouchers.
Amid Trump's devastating cuts to trans healthcare, we celebrate $15 million for gender affirming care, which primarily covers a direct access fund for trans youth.New York City
DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America
This budget's investments in the Office of Community Safety, non-police crisis response programs, including the Progressive Caucus's Crisis to Care package, and violence and hate crime prevention represent a significant step towards true public safety. We are heartened that, thanks to firm advocacy from City Socialists in Office Tiffany Cabán, Alexa Avilés, Shahana Hanif, and Chi Ossé and grassroots organizations, there will be no increase to the NYPD headcount. We look forward to continuing to fight for a budget and a city that refuses to see arrests and incarceration as the solutions to all social ills.New York City
DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS of America
We know that to achieve true public safety and more, we must tax the rich. We are proud that this year, together with Mayor Mamdani, we won a tax on the second homes of New York City's wealthiest. But it's far from enough. We will continue to fight to ensure that corporations and the ultra-rich pay their fair share. We envision a city where working people can thrive, where housing is an affordable public good, and where real safety and wellbeing are prioritized over policing and punishment. We are proud that this budget advances these goals and look forward to building this future.

That’s why we fought to expand our democratic socialist bloc in Albany. Because the fight to tax the rich and fund healthcare isn’t over. If you’re losing your Essential Plan healthcare, share your story and show the cost of Hochul’s betrayal: bit.ly/fund-care
This didn't have to happen.
It would cost less than 1% of the state budget to keep these New
Yorkers insured.
But Governor Hochul chose her wealthy donors over our lives.Everyone will be affected.
When half a million people lose coverage, it has a domino effect through our healthcare system.
Hospital closures
Long lines at the emergency
room
Spiraling healthcare costsThe fight isn't over. We just elected 7 new democratic socialists to the state legislature.
We're going to stand up to Hochul, tax the rich, and win healthcare for all.Are you losing your Essential Plan coverage? We want to hear from you.
Share your story here or at the link in our bio: bit.ly/fund-care

It’s July 1. Today, nearly half a million New Yorkers will lose healthcare. Governor Hochul could have stopped this for less than 1% of the final state budget. Instead, she put wealthy donors over our lives.
450,000
NEW
YORKERS
LOSE THEIR
HEALTHCARE TODAYIt's July 1.
Today, over 450,000 New Yorkers will be kicked off their
Essential Plan healthcare coverage.
During budget negotiations, we called on Governor Hochul to tax the rich and stop this healthcare catastrophe. She refused.New York's Essential Plan previously covered households making up to 250% of the federal poverty line, or:
$39,900 for a single adult with no children
$80,375 for a family of fourTrump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act decimated healthcare spending.
In response, New York shrunk eligibility for the Essential Plan from 250% to 200% of the federal poverty line.
The change takes effect today.
Nearly half a million will lose insurance.

NYC-DSA’s Trans Rights and Bodily Autonomy Working Group’s response to the two anti-trans Supreme Court decisions handed down today.
Today the Supreme Court handed down its decisions on West Virginia v. BPJ and Little v. Hecox. These weren't decisions about sports, they were decisions about the basic dignity of trans existence. Until we are welcome to participate in public life under the same protections and privileges granted to cisgender Americans, we are being violently robbed of the basic right to be human in America. The Supreme Court has once again declared itself a rubber stamp for fascism and its reign of terror will not end until the body is replaced with a court that is democratic and accountable to the people.

The billionaire class says we can’t balance the budget without cutting services and raising costs. A socialist just proved them wrong. Investing in housing, mental health, parks, and libraries is what budgets are for & what working people deserve. That’s your city on socialism.
YOUR CITY ON SOCIALISM:
NO NEW CUTS NO NEW COPS
Zohran Mamdani just eliminated
Eric Adams' $12 billion budget deficit-all without raising costs on working families and while making new investments in communities, not cops."Throughout this process, I have been reminded of the words of Austrian economist Friedrich Hayek: 'If socialists understood economics, they would not be socialists. If the past months have shown us anything, it is that socialists not only understand economics just as well as the capitalists who came before, but we can solve their years of mismanagement
THROUGH AN EMBRACE OF OUR PRINCIPLES."
