Don't know who needs to hear this, but building courage is like building muscle. Using it for small things and incrementally increasing amounts helps you when it comes time for the bigger stuff.

In the last interview of his life (1996), astronomer Carl Sagan gave an eerily prescient warning of the dangers that come when you cannot ask skeptical scientific questions of those in authority. Watch and ask yourself: was he right?

Seems like we’re having a “great new people should run for office” chat again. Awesome! However: I have yet to be convinced that “more scientists in office” is a better outcome for science than “people who are talented politicians who understand and value science and listen to their advisors.”

Just trying to get my head around the absolute gutting of cdc and nih today. A bleak day for the US and …. well staying alive longer than people did in the 19th century.

If students learn anything from a psychology class, it should be how to evaluate whether something is pseudoscience or not. Otherwise, people fall victim to scams ("use these magnets on your wrists to 'improve your energy flow'"). 3/6

You may have seen that the incoming NIH director and his buddies started a new journal, The Journal of the Academy of Public Health (One clue: There is no recognized Academy of Public Health) www.science.org/content/arti...

We are getting closer and closer to irreversible climate catastrophe. 2024 was the warmest year on record. It also saw higher than expected sea level rise and the highest sea levels since we began tracking this information in 1993. The time for climate action is now!

Just heard that Trump is putting an end to atmospheric monitoring site NY67 that is run out of my lab. This is one of the oldest NADP sites in the US, continually measuring acid rain and other pollutants since 1977. Closing it down is tragic.

People might think that whatever destruction is done to science in the US, we can undo in 4 years with a Democratic president and Congress. The problem is that many areas require specialized knowledge and skills built up over years, and once that's lost, it's hard to get back.

I cannot in good mind just read a good article & keep thinking about just the article alone. I get so interested in the author. I try to look up more of their work. Who is their muse ? Does their soul reflect their writing ? I have more questions than answers.i get so fascinated by their existence.

My exam is about 24 days away, and panic has set in, in its full glory and everything and Im ever so grateful because picking my phone up to give myself breaks make me so annoyed, I want to procrastinate on taking breaks by studying more. Reached that part of exam season.

I still find it hard to emotionally regulate sometimes, and just holding on to those reins of emotions drain me and it takes my all to do so, this only makes me want to treat kids kinder. They experience emotions bigger than themselves and do not have the tools to self regulate.

I always try my best to distance myself from people who hate kids or babies. Yes babies are going to cry, they are probably experiencing the most traumatic thing ever in their 2 days of existence. What happened to compassion? Where is your empathy?

When I see the American scientific community announcing accomplishments or see that they are extremely close to finding cure/ solving an issue,I feel so gutted knowing that the lack of funds would make it harder to continue & sure enough, the next tweet talks about loss of funds.

Every once in a while criticisms of American foreign policy are met with an insistence that actually the US does a lot of good in the world, citing work by organizations like USAID. The current administration seems determined to completely destroy that argument.

The New York Times is the first to put out comprehensive estimates on the cost of a year without U.S.A.I.D. and they’re higher than I thought: - 1.65 million deaths from AIDS - 500,000 from lack of vaccines - 550,000 from lack of food aid - 290,000 from malaria - 310,000 from TB
