I have questions for this professor.

Second interview next week, and since everybody applying for this position knows Python, and I'm given the opportunity to choose my language... I'm going to do it IN SWIFT. I'm back, my love. #SwiftLang (Chart courtesy of @wakatime.bsky.social)
My coding stats, showing Swift as the most-used -- STILL! (Java and Python are #2 and #3, respectively). source: wakatime.com

That moment when it finally clicks that I'm struggling so hard with references and inheritance in Java is because it's basically pointers from C++ all over again, which is something I only barely survived the first time. Well, fine. I have a core concept that needs more work. I can do this.

I *said* I have been *busy* (Remember, I have a full-time job and that FT job is *not* coding.) Stats via @wakatime.bsky.social

Apparently, Java and JavaScript do in fact have something in common. (Less of an issue now that IDEs can be more verbose and helpful, but still a classic.) docs.oracle.com/javase/tutor...
Sometimes when programming in javascript I just want to yell "fuck this," but i can't remember what "this" refers to!

How close I am to my associate's degree. I start WGU on August 1st, then I'll be reverse transferring the rest to finish it off. Depending on how quickly I learn Java, this means I could in fact have my degree by the end of the year. From there, I just focus on my bridge BS/MS program at WGU!

ITT: how to make a long post within the character limit of Bluesky
My next project, which I will start on later tonight — is a super simple Swift app that will nonetheless make my life a million times easier.

It’ll have a database of known “safe foods” (common in children with ARFID and/or autism), and will offer 4 random food options from that list. This is to help with decision paralysis when speaking to said child about what they want to eat.

It’ll also include quick access to remove items from the database, and add new ones.

Requirements are it’ll have to run on an iPhone 11 *and* a modern iPhone, so there’ll be some self-imposed OS limitations.

I won’t be able to share the finished product with the world, but I can sideload it to my son’s phone to help him communicate with us when he’s hungry and doesn’t know what he wants. 🩵

But also tbh I just need a win. This semester was HARD. I want to BUILD SOMETHING. I want to SOLVE A PROBLEM.

Y'all ... C++ has already surpassed HTML and CSS in terms of how many hours I have used it (since 2022). Statistics and charts are so much fun! @wakatime.bsky.social #wakatime

Did I just get distracted from my C++ homework because I was curious why my de-linter hated the pseudo-RNG method my professor insisted we use for this assignment? Yes. Will any of what I just learned be on the midterms? No. No learning is useless, however. Look how happy the dragon* is!

Is it a best practice? Yes. Does it improve readability and reduce maintenance headaches? Yes Does the language itself give a fuck? ... nope. So it's not *required*, but really, we should all be doing it for our sanity. I could just name all my variables different amounts of underscores...

I was at risk of dropping down to a B after an accidental missed project, but she dropped everyone’s lowest assignment! 💪 Algorithms course DONE.

Ah, finals week.
The world is a cruel and unjust place. There is no harmony in the universes the only constant is suffering. *minutes later* Oh, I misspelled a variable.
