Fuzzy phone cam photo, but a Steller's Jay at feeder. Common in the area mtns, but rare along river. So, in past 3 days, arrival of Townsend's Solitaires which will spend the winter, a Mtn Chickadee, now a Steller's Jay. Interested to see which is best predictor of winter: NWS or the birds? 🤔

Just had a Mtn Chickadee come in. The only time we've had mtns show at our river altitude is during some really harsh winters. Black-capped are residents here, while the Mtn species is up in area mtns. Townsend's Solitaires are arriving, as well. Maybe too dry up hi or a real winter on the way?🤷🏻‍♂️

Back up to the house after walk around & thru the place. Found a couple clusters of oyster mushrooms on a dead tree trunk that I cut off path last wkend. Looks like a deer browsed on larger clump. Fall color along the spring ck that flows thru property. Color will be past peak by next wkend.

Evening light. In a week, I get the sprinkler system blown out. And, the septic system pumped, no problems, just preventative maintenance every 5-6 yrs. 1 or 2 more lawn mowings for season. One more vehicle to service before Winter. And, need a load of firewood. Then, we just need snow this year!

Helped neighbor fishing with his grandkids, all 3 landed & released at least 1. Lol!, indeed it was herding cats, esp the 5 y/o! Then, to country store for milk & feed store for seed. Both were low inventory! Asked about it & was told at both places, with diesel prices, deliveries are fewer now!

Visible satellite imagery this morning is showing a similar pattern to what we have been seeing all week. Areas of fog and low clouds are in place along the coast and higher level clouds are streaming overhead. Look for another warmer day across the region.
