I got this press release from CM Bob Kettle. What a joke. He’s fine with ICE’s mission, he just thinks they should be more professional about it. We need better leaders than this.
Public Safety Chair Kettle condemns ICE tactics, ongoing conduct of raids in Seattle

SEATTLE – Today Councilmember Bob Kettle (District 7), issued the following statement after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions this week in Seattle, the shocking killing of a bystander in Minneapolis by agents, and nationwide demonstrations last night in response to the agency’s unprecedented tactics.

"Yesterday’s tragic killing by an ICE agent highlights our worst fears and confirms what I and others have been stating for months: ICE’s approach to its mission actively undermines local public safety and puts our entire community at risk. My thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends and the Minneapolis community during this time of loss.

“This tragedy was entirely preventable, and this type of reckless conduct is unacceptable. As I repeatedly emphasized, it undermines the progress we have worked hard to accomplish here in Seattle. While federal law enforcement agencies have the right to conduct their duties within the city, we expect them to carry out their missions unaided by our local police, except in clear emergency situations, and in a safe manner.

"I remain deeply disappointed in the lack of professionalism and standards shown by ICE agents— including wearing masks and face coverings. As a city we hold the Seattle Police Department to a high standard of accountability and expect the same level of discipline and standards from our federal public servants. The federal government’s approach to public safety in all jurisdictions should prioritize the well-being of the people it serves, not jeopardize it.

"It is a concerning time for our city and its immigrant communities, but I and our other leaders are steadfast in our support. As Chair of the Public Safety Committee, I will continue to address and speak to these issues and work alongside my Council colleagues, Mayor Wilson, and City Attorney Evans toward our shared goal of creating a safer Seattle…

Why does the city need to "cut a deal" with the cops to get back money that the cops have in contravention of law and contract? Why do we as a community have to "cut a deal" with the people who ostensibly serve us? Are we a self-governing polity or are we under occupation?

by Hannah Saunders Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson dropped her 2027 proposed budget, and leftist activists across the city are pushing back against the increase in Seattle Police Department (SPD) funding. Most recently, the Community Not Cameras Coalition, whose members helped get Mayor Wilson elected, highlighted how the budget hides SPD surveillance costs while upping the funds for cameras before audits on their effectiveness have been released.

A big failure. The argument about streaming the traffic cameras into the real-time crime center was that all the feeds were publicly available anyway, a fact that we now know to be untrue. That this happened at all erodes public trust in city government, and in surveillance cameras specifically.

Juarez was also a major proponent of a $160M new North Precinct for the SPD, "the most expensive precinct building in United States history." A militarized, fortified luxury bunker. (We blocked it). Remember the Bunker when she tries to pull some shady shit on this year's budget
The Seattle police are in the news again. This time for a lavish new $160 million North Precinct building that The Seattle Times’ Brier Dudley claims is the most expensive precinct building in United States history. The epic structure contains a 106,082-square-foot precinct house straddling a 241,019-square-foot parking garage. In other words, the complex is 70% parking.
