Next panel she's getting bucked against a wall. He says "Great question." In broken huffs. "Still making a meal out of you."
Jacky says harder please. He stops and grins off panel. "Only harder?"

Scenwulf, a tall blonde werewolfesque prince in what my friend called 'his little gay robe' talking to Tam. In the first scribble he's showing him a large oblong rock. Next to it I wrote 'probably pointing out how phallic the rock is'.
Scen says, "I would like you to add finding my father to your little to-do list."

Scen waves his hand and turns. "You were here this morning. You saw." He stands beside the stone and gestures to it. "I'm sure we can agree a ROCK cannot rule in a king's place. He must return."
Tam says "The rules say the rock is as good as the king being here. They don't say it needs to be practical."

Scen looks annoyed. He folds his hands. "Fair enough. Since you'll be here for the week, Cousin, I'll have opportunities to demonstrate that my sire, this rock, can't fulfill his duties." He walks away. "And we can begin the process of dragging his ass back."

Jacky and Tam examine a tattered pelt. It's not uncommon in the Cat's Way for pelts to be preserved as a form of burial. They both understand this used to be someone.
Jacky says: "That guy died rough."
Tam, who is realizing he recognizes the pelt and probably killed him, looks sidelong at her. He doesn't seem bothered by this revelation. He says "Mm." Then he puts it over her hand and shoulders. "Must have had it coming."
Putting it over her shoulders accidentally reads like he's making an allusion, but wearing the pelts is pretty common for travelers Lol its what they're meant to do.

Jacky is short for an adult (4'11'', blame the faerie genes)- but Tam is just massive. I'd leave as soon as he blinked too long too. She does this a lot. Good interactions, bad interactions, doesn't matter. She's gonna bail. Drawing a series of the moment she sneaks away would be fun.

He's also probably not asleep- but unless he's got a reason to feel otherwise he's really not gonna care if she leaves Lol knowledge she isn't privy to.

This was supposed to be part of a series of sketches but I didn't feel like trying to make a perfect social media square, so here it is. Tam is pretty live and let live (or at least tolerant). Also the last thing you see if you're wrong place and wrong time but...

Jacky and Tam look at each other across a room. She has a travel bag and an axe and is laying on some kind of leafy (or spruce bough) pile. In my mind's eye he showed up at a waystation she was overnighting in and they're parallel existing until the weather clears. Except Jacky stares like a stray cat.

I never know what to say about my sketches because half of them don't belong to a single coherent story. It's a mish mash of what ifs and first meeting possibilities because that's the daydream factory I repeat all day.

An extremely tall man and short woman look at each other from close distance in a waystation. Tam, the tall guy, seems to have just come in through the door. The girl, Jacky, is looking at him from a wall, and probably wasn't expecting anyone else to show up. He's significantly larger than her. Her body language is saying she's mostly okay with this but she doesn't know yet (if I drew it right, anyway).

I think some kind of ancient family curse kicks in when I try to measure and cut wood. I cut a board today. I used it to make lines for another board I wanted to cut the same length. I triple checked it. Somehow still cut the board six inches too short. Wtf happened. I don't know. I feel haunted.

So my bird feeder adventure attracted the harvester ants to the backyard, which is fine, I like them and they're native. The colony on our property has been there my whole life. But I think somebody started a NEW colony because this little gang of ne'er-do-wells keeps showing up on my porch. >

Tam is in the driver's seat of Jacky's rental car. He's almost too big to fit. The wheel is low and between his legs and his head is touching the ceiling. By contrast, Jacky is short and barely fills the passenger side.
"How do YOU have a license?" Jacky asks. It makes no sense to her that he would, she met him in a fantasy world. He has a cat paw for a hand. He's secretly a dragon. Why should that make sense?
"Because you're not the only person who thought I couldn't get to them here. I'm motivated when I'm pissed."
The cab goes silent. He stares forward. She stares forward.
"I'm not pissed. I saw what you were actually running from." He finally says. Jacky leans away and gives him side eye. He continues. "Don't read into this, but I understand why. I don't expect you to lose your sense of self preservation. You wouldn't be useful to me if you did. But I'm the exception, got it? Scared of something? Be more scared of me. Got a problem? Bring it to me. I own you until I say otherwise."
Jacky looks down, nervous. "I was afraid you'd let it have me to solve the problem."
Tam looks a little caught off guard. There's a caption next to him that says 'she's not completely wrong and he knows it.' He starts to speak. "No-" "I'm not si-" Then seems to change his mind and locks into an annoyed and disengaged face, like he's ending the conversation.
"If I was going to, running wouldn't change it."

Fun fact, Tam can never lose his coat. It's connected to a hammerspace he always has access to. So if you steal it, he will be showing up at his leisure to take it back.

Jacky sits in her parked rental car with Tam's coat in a pile in the passenger seat, her cheek on her hand and her eyes closed. He shocks her by climbing out of the coat and putting it on. He's considerably bigger than her and too big for her cab. He reaches for the key and takes it. She asks how he knows how to do that. He leans over her, looking annoyed, and says in a minute she won't care.

Here's some old doodle sheets that expand on Jacky being from Oregon and her relationship with Faerie/ending up in otherworldly places.

Eleven year old Jacky holds a lanky orange cat that completely fills her arms and thensome. She has longer hair that is tied back.
Jacky experienced a kind of village raising as a kid. It was only her and her mom, but when she went into the woods she met faeries. It was a dice roll if they were going to mean her harm or not, but she got pretty good at telling the difference. The good ones taught her things that would help her survive on her own. They probably also taught her to fuck with people, but what power does an eleven year old have.
When she was seven years old she found Peter's eye in a drawer in Gale's house. I haven't settled on why she and Claudia were there. I don't think Gale and Jacky knew each other in this iteration of the story. The eye rattled for her from a wooden box upstairs. She took it home and Gale was never any the wiser- he'd never know it was there to begin with.
After finding the eye, Peter started to appear to her. He talked a little. She followed him and other cats that began to appear to secret places, although she couldn't trust the cats all the way either. Occasionally one would try to lead her somewhere bad.
Jacky had to get real good at running and real good at detecting bullshit at a young age.

Fiddletails are faeries born to human mothers, they are 'conceived' when the mother eats a special mushroom from a faerie ring. There is no biological father.
Their nickname derives from the fern-like shape of the end of their tail, which can resemble a fiddlehead when balled.
The fronds on their back are soft enough to lay flat or can be trimmed. It doesn't hurt. The tail is fleshy.
A fiddletail will find it easy to cross between the waking world and other worlds from a young age. If they're intuitive (or lucky) they'll lean to hide from threats quick, but not everything is dangerous. Many will find themselves in a takes-a-village raising situation with a network of faerie aunts, uncles and cousins.
In modern times it's uncommon for fiddletails to run into each other, and most will never get a clear answer about what they are.
They prefer bare feet or faerie made shoes.
They start shapeshifting around young adulthood. Colors and markings vary, but the base shape stays the same across all members of the species. Jacky no longer shapeshifts but her alt form wa sa bit of a tank compared to her. Not shifting started as a choice (trauma), but she's mostly lost the ability.
Jacky's alt form is about the size of a big cat, but she's learned to survive without it.

A while ago I wrote a blurb about Jacky stealing Tam's coat and sitting in her car rental with it and a bunch of people turned their head because they didn't expect there to be cars in my setting. Jacky is from Oregon lol

She went back to Oregon. The adventure was over for now. She took the coat with her as a memento- but it was a burden every minute she possessed it. It was too big. Jacky tried rolling it up like a sleeping bag and gave up after the third time it rebounded in her face. It was so determined to return to his shape. Her power trip had turned into a power fail, and it was not even very useful.
It was on the passenger side of her rental taking up the seat and the floorboard. When she put it there it was balled up, but it had since spilled over like a stretching cat. The rental was bigger than she'd asked for- a titanic SUV -but now, with the seat all the way forward and all the way down so she could kick at the pedals and still not enough room for the coat, she was glad.
It would have reached over and smothered me in a car.
She pulled off the road into a paved square with trees yawning over it and cut the engine. It knocked as it went to sleep. The coat spilled onto the gear stick again and she slapped it out of the way. She could have put it in the back, there was room, but she didn't like having it behind her. The big bitch was supernatural.
She had tried wearing it once when it got chilly but when she had it around her shoulders it was uncannily like having her back turned to a dark corner or her feet in deep water. It was warm, but it also wasn't worth it. And the guilt. She felt very guilty. It didn't feel like spoils, it felt like stealing, and that was weirder to sit with than she thought it would be.
She was ready to pitch it in the Good Will box but she couldn't bring herself to abandon it. So it was still here.
Reminding her that her last interaction with Tam was to give him a new reason to have a bone to pick.
