In case any of you are new to using mobility aids, or are thinking about getting one for whatever reason you may have, here’s what I said to my wife who recently started using a cane. Just in case you needed to hear this ❤️

Btw, I should have given you this warning about using mobility aids a long time ago, but better late than never:
As you said yourself, many people are gonna be more considerate to you, and that's wonderful and they should!
However; There are also gonna be times where people offer you help you neither need nor want, and if you say no, they're going to insist because they want to fulfil their own saviour complex about disabled people. Some of them will not take no for an answer, and they're gonna do what they

People will also ask you why you're using a cane, they'll say you're too young to possibly need a cane, and people are going to ask what your specific disability is, and they'll continue to pry if you don't want to tell them. You can of course tell them if you want to and are comfortable doing so, but it's important to remember that you in no way owe a complete stranger information about your health and your body. You are allowed to not tell them.
That is entirely within your right.
You do not have to be polite to these people;
They are being invasive and have no right to you, or to any information about you. You do not have to engage in pleasantries; If they make you uncomfortable, or if you're just not feeling it, you are fully allowed to leave the situation without a word. What they think does not matter; They were intruding on your space and have no claim on politeness from you in any way whatsoever.
Please stand your ground and leave any situations you don't want to be in, yeah?
