Trees and fruit. Mana is like a fruit of the land. It can only make so much every turn, but it will make more if you wait. That made the most sense to me when I was learning, and people I have taught seem to understand that well. The one land per turn part is easiest if I show them Azusa. lol.

It is so easy to do now with the massive increase in MDFCs from MH3. Most of my decks are playing 28-32 lands, and then a bunch of MDFC lands. My only decks that is a bit lower is my Hare Apparent deck and it’s mostly because I’m playing in insanely low curve. That deck is still at 35 or 36 tho.

Forgot to update after round 3! Round 3: 2-0 against Abzan splashing blue. Close game 1 and a very aggressive curve game 2 got there. Still no Elspeth! Round 4: 2-0 against Sultai dragons. Game 1 was super close with my opponent gaining 20+ and draining 4 times with maelstrom. Game 2 Elspeth win!

I totally could see how it would be overwhelming without reminder text. Maybe I’m in too deep, but I honestly think a few cards with old keywords is good for new players because it feeds curiosity. When I was new (12 years ago😵‍💫) I loved finding mechanics I’d never heard of and exploring old cards.
