Day two of repairs to this old Titanic model (not mine). A broken mast was fixed with a new metal section secured to the original stump with a hypodermic needle inserted into a hole I drilled.

This Titanic model is on the bench for repairs. It was built by a chap who has sadly passed away. His former partner asked me to fix it. I am giving it a clean & mending breakages.

A solid Sunday morning complete with the rub down of all the primed components to the E2046 1/8th scale FG11621 Miku Nakano. Also pictured is the moped from the 1/10th scale Shima Run kit which has been sanded down and spray painted twice now. It will repeat this until I am happy with it.

The first coat of primer on the 1/10th scale E2046 FG11385 Shima Rin with Motorcycle GK revealed numerous flaws, mould lines and resin chunks. The clean up will take several days before I start the same process on the other kit.

After two airbrushing sessions everything from my two E2046 figurine projects are primed. FG11385 1/10th scale Shima Rin with Motorcycle and FG11621 1/8th scale Nakano Miku.

Mounting components on sticks for painting. All these are from the E2046 1/10th scale Shima Rin with Motorcycle. I had broken the fragile resin wires off the back of the speedometer so replaced them with lead wire.

Another evening spent rubbing down the E2046 FG11385 1/10th scale Shima Rin with Motorcycle with wet'n'dry. Slowly getting there but mucky as hell and deathly boring.

After a couple of weeks pouring 5 minute epoxy into the interior of the Moped chassis of the E2046 1/10th scale "Shima Rin with Motorcycle" garage kit it is done. Masking is removed and filling has started.

Filling internal voids in the E2046 1/10th scale FG11385 Moped with 5 minute epoxy. I can only now pour it in via a narrow opening above the front wheel arch inverted. I then roll it upright so the epoxy flows through. Risky if it leaks but I have plugged every gap with Blu Tac, Magic Sculp & tape.

I failed to get a good tight fit between the two halves of the steering column/air dam on the E2046 FG11485 1/10th scale Shima Rin garage kit so have resorted to Magic Sculp to fill the gap. After 24 hours I will strengthen this joint with a backfill of 5 minute epoxy.

Back on the bench again after my summer holidays. Assembling the moped from the E2046 FG11385 1/10th scale Shima Rin garage kit. Fit of parts is truly awful so I fettle to an approximate fit, then seal the joints with blu tac and masking tape before pouring in 5 minute epoxy and leaving overnight.

Using 5 minute epoxy to glue together the moped from the 1/10th scale E2046 FG11385 "Shima Rin with Motorcycle" garage kit. Complete nightmare. The stuff likes to leak everywhere then get all over your hands and the kit. Yuk. It's clamped and taped. Cannot do any more. Just had to walk away.

Assembling the main frame of the moped for the E2046 FG11385 "Shima Rin with Motorcycle" 1/10th scale garage kit. The fit is poor with no location tabs so to give it strength I am using large amounts of 5 minute epoxy after tacking with super glue.

I found where every component of the 1/10th scale E2046 "Shina Rin with Motorcycle" fits so clean up continues. Normally with garage kits you paint everything then assemble. However I will need to part pre-assemble the moped due to the poor fit of such large parts. It will need a lot of filler.

The front forks on the moped for the E2046 FG11385 1/10th scale "Shima Rin with Motorcycle" kit seem to be made up of two parts that should be handed. Instead I have two parts the same which makes the fit less than perfect.

Sunday morning working on taking the pro-photos of the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS that I finished (finally!) last month. I will edit them together through the week and upload them. Disappointed that one of two new flash guns gave up the ghost. Managed with one.

This is complicated. Fettling the components to the FG11385 E2046 1/10th scale Shima Rin with Motorcycle and making it fit together. The tricky bit is that there are no assembly instructions leaving me scratching my head about some of the smaller components. I am 90% of the way there.

Removing mould seams and test fitting the main character parts from the E2046 FG11385 1/10th scale "Shima Rin with Motorcycle". (The kit is actually of a "moped" although I don't know if China/Japan recognise the definition difference in their local road law. It might be a European-only concept.)

The E2046 FG11385 1/10th scale "Shima Rin with Motorcycle" will take a lot time to de-seam & fettle together as it has a lot of parts. This is made worse by a lack of any assembly diagram. It is upscaled from the Artpla 1/24th scale kit so I have the instructions from that for guidance.

The occasionally tricky job of sticking all the components of the E2046 FG11621 1/8th scale Nakano Miku figurine onto cocktail sticks ready for priming. I am using PVA wood glue. I do drill small holes into some of the bigger items and insert the cocktail stick for a stronger joint in heavier items.

Finished the initial clean-up and dry-fit-fettling on this the E2046 1/8th scale FG11621 Nakano Miku figurine. Everything fits really well with the usual exception of the ambiguity about how the hair fits together. The parts will be washed and mounted on sticks and sprayed with primer.

After 11 months hard graft on the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS.... time for a bench cleanser: the 1/10th Shima Rin (from the anime "Laid Back Camp") & 1/8th Nakano Miku (from the anime "Quintessential Quintuplets") from E2046. Something to restore my mojo and sanity. They are for fun.

Starting the process of building the display case for the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. I measured the base precisely. Wooden bases are rarely perfectly square so I take the max dimensions plus a little wiggle room then calculate sizes. I have to do the perspex cutting downstairs.

11 months work is finally over as I finish the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS some 3 months behind schedule after an extremely difficult build. The decision to use the Armory resin engine pods was regrettable but I overcame. Time to move on.

The process of attaching the aerial that runs from vertical tail to cockpit mounted mast on the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. I pre-drilled a hole through the mast, threaded the wire and held it with a tweezers grip under the force of gravity before applying super glue to the mast.

The 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS project has been on the bench over 11 months but finally nears completion. The remaining masking has been removed and the rear upper gunner position is assembled. The mast for the aerial will be allowed to set hard over night before final rigging tomorrow.

Assembling the mid-upper gun position onto the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. The detachable canopy was meant to slide under the fixed section but I found no space to insert it without risking breakage so I will just glue it closed.

Small Wonder Models @smallwondermark.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
I used a drop of PVA to secure the rear gun canopy to the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. There was a small gap so I filled that with PVA mixed with a little water then wiped away the excess with a cotton bud.

The 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS is now ready for final assembly so I have flipped it over to add the rear gun assembly. The ammo belt is from an Eduard photoetch set.

Final coat of Semi-Gloss onto the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS using a Humbrol enamel that I always prefer for the final coat. The model has been around the bench for too long so is covered in dust tufts to be removed if I can.

Adding the open engine cowls on the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. They are held open by struts that I replicated with wire. Placement was fiddly but I got it done with super glue gel.

After a week away from the bench (away on business) I return to mostly finish the pigment weathering on the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. It will all be over by Christmas. Don't know which year.

I use pastel pigments the way some use an airbrush to achieve weathering and shading techniques. This on the underside of the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS.

A coat of the AK Ultra-Matt for the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS and all its various components. This seals in the oils/enamel washes and preps it for pigment weathering. I put a drop of the principal camo colours into the varnish to tone down the decals and blend everything together.

Finished the base for the 1/48th scale Xuntong Tupolev Tu-2VS. It looks pretty good. I just need to add the traditional green beize underside. I use the self adhesive stuff on a roll. Easy peesy.
