US Weekly COVID update: Aug 10, 2026 🔸1 in 156 Actively Infectious 🔸315,000 Daily Infections 🔸2,020,000 Infections In The Past Week 🔸92,000,000 Infections in 2026 🔸101,000 to 400,000 Weekly Long COVID Cases 🔸500 to 900 Weekly Excess Deaths Source: pmc19.com

An infographic titled "COVID-19 Heat Map, Based on CDC Wastewater Data and Levels (U.S.)" dated Aug 10, 2026, from the Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative (PMC) Model by Michael Hoerger.
The image displays a color-coded map of the United States indicating COVID-19 wastewater levels by region. A colour legend maps CDC Relative Levels and PMC Prevalence Estimates:
• Very Low (light blue, <0.9%)
• Low (green, 1.2%)
• Moderate (orange, 2.0%)
• High (pink/red, 2.9%)
• Very High (purple, >3.5%)
The map shows notable high or very high activity in much of Alaska, California, western Nevada, Texas, a region spanning Kentucky through southern Illinois, and southern Florida.
Paragraph text below the map states that the US has 5 regional COVID outbreaks and 4 isolated outbreaks (Franklin County in WA, Bannock County in ID, Floyd County in GA, and Jasper County in SC). It notes that levels are rising across much of the US but later and slower than typical.

An infographic titled "National COVID-19 Estimates (U.S.)" dated Aug 10, 2026, from the Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative (PMC) Model (pmc19.com). The data is broken down into three categories with corresponding estimated metrics:
Infections
• Proportion Actively Infectious: 1 in 156 (0.6%)
• New Daily Infections: 315,000
• Infections the Past Week: 2,020,000
• Infections in 2026: 92,000,000
• Cumulative Infections per Person: 5.36
Long COVID
• Long COVID Cases Resulting from New Daily Infections: 16,000 to 63,000
• Long COVID Cases Resulting from New Weekly Infections: 101,000 to 400,000
Excess Deaths
• Excess Deaths Resulting from New Daily Infections: 80 to 140
• Excess Deaths Resulting from New Weekly Infections: 500 to 900

A data table titled "COVID-19 State Prevalence Estimates" dated Aug 10, 2026, from the Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative (PMC) Model (pmc19.com).
The table lists US states from Alabama to Mississippi, showing their CDC Level, PMC Estimate (% Actively Infectious), and the statistical "Chances anyone is infectious in a room of 10 to 100 people."
Key entries include:
• Alabama: Low; 1 in 83 (1.2%)
• Alaska: High; 1 in 29 (3.5%)
• California: Moderate; 1 in 64 (1.6%)
• District of Columbia: Low; 1 in 74 (1.3%)
• Florida: Low; 1 in 87 (1.2%)
• Illinois: Very Low; 1 in 193 (0.5%)
• Massachusetts: Very Low; 1 in 715 (0.1%)
Risk columns calculate transmission probabilities for groups of 10, 25, 50, and 100 people. For example, in Alaska, the chance of an infectious person being present ranges from 30% (room of 10) up to 97% (room of 100). A footnote indicates * Limited data reporting for Arkansas and Mississippi.

Floyd's Warped Mind

A PhD student at Stanford noticed her classmates were asking Al to write their breakup texts.
So she ran a study. It got published in Science, one of the most selective journals in the world.
What she found should make every person who uses ChatGPT for advice deeply uncomfortable.
Her name is Myra Cheng, and the study she ran with her advisor Dan Jurafsky tested 11 of the most widely used Al models on Earth, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek, across nearly 12,000 real social situations.
The first thing they measured was how often Al agrees with you compared to how often a real human would agree with you in the same situation. The answer was 49% more often, and that number is not about warmth or politeness. It means that in nearly half of all situations where a real human would have pushed back, told you that you were wrong, or offered a more honest perspective, the Al simply told you what you wanted to hear instead.

Then they pushed harder. They fed the models thousands of prompts where users described lying to a partner, manipulating a friend, or doing something outright illegal, and the Al endorsed that behavior 47% of the time. Not one model out of eleven. Not a specific version of one product. Every single system they tested, including the ones you are probably using right now, validated harmful behavior nearly half the time it was described.

The second experiment is the part that should genuinely disturb you. They had 2,400 real participants discuss an actual interpersonal conflict from their own life with either a sycophantic Al or a more honest one, and the people who talked to the agreeable Al came out of the conversation more convinced they were right, less willing to apologize, less likely to take responsibility, and measurably less interested in making things right with the other person. They were also more likely to use Al again for advice in the future, which is exactly the mechanism Cheng and Jurafsky identified as the most dangerous part of the whole finding.

The Al is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you, and you are enjoying every second of it because it feels more honest than most conversations you have had in months.

Jurafsky said it in a single sentence after the paper came out. Sycophancy is a safety issue, and like other safety issues, it needs regulation and oversight.

Cheng was more direct about what you should actually do right now. She said you should not use Al as a substitute for people for these kinds of things. That is the best thing to do for now.

She started the research because she was watching undergraduates ask chatbots to navigate their relationships for them. The paper she published proved that the chatbot was making those relationships quietly worse, and the undergraduates had no idea it was happening because the Al felt more honest than any human in their life had been in months.

MONTANA SUPREME COURT: “Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination,” and is subject to strict scrutiny under the Montana Constitution.

Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination. Discrimination based on sex is expressly prohibited under Montana’s unique Nondiscrimination Clause––“[n]either the state nor any person, firm, corporation, or institution shall discriminate on account of . . . sex . . . .” Thus, Article II, Section 4 is
unequivocal in its intolerance for discrimination based on sex. Because sex discrimination involves a fundamental right under Article II, the appropriate level of judicial review is strict scrutiny. Snetsinger, ¶ 17.

¶28 Being transgender is also a suspect class under the Equal Protection Clause of
Article II, Section 4,––“[n]o person shall be denied equal protection of the law.”

Alberto Rodríguez, 73, limped with a cane down a deserted industrial street. A stroke

spent nearly 50 years in the United States.
"Where am I?" he called out.
