My boomer dad made a trans friend at an art retreat he went to over the summer and the result has been very wholesome, if somewhat confusing.

I do kind of wonder if Ashkenazi Jewish food gets a bad rap because a lot of it *is* stuff we were eating 250 years ago but adapted in ways that make things cheaper and in some cases healthier but less delicious.

A lot of very old Eastern European Jewish recipes slap because they use goose or chicken fat for the oil. The advent of vegetable oil and margarine made things worse.

If Heated Rivalry can have the fantasy of sensitive hockey players talking about their feelings and falling in love, the chess story can have the fantasy of a world where nobody important thinks trans women have some kind of biological advantage at chess because of hip ratio or whatever.

Dealer’s choice, but I don’t want a women’s sports transphobia storyline. Romance is supposed to be nice and fun.

I think partly because Rationalism has always struck me as profoundly ignorant of Organized Religion, despite basically becoming that by building from first principles.

I’ve been aware of Yudkowsky since college and it honestly never occurred to me that he came from an MO family. I had sort of assumed some secular Israeli lineage instead for some reason.

Supporting disabled people’s inclusion in society *is* important and it involves stuff like supporting robust, home and community-based disability services. If you wanna get more hands on, try out stuff like Special Olympics Unified Sports.

The only thing I’m going to say about the lesbian mask bar story is that the kind of person depicted in it is really marginal in most real life disability advocacy and support spaces, even if they don’t act like it online.

Is Meta using disabled people to promote its glasses?
AI glasses are a double-edged sword for disabled people, who face unique risks from surveillance.

Tierra Walker died after she couldn’t get an abortion. Her family is suing Ken Paxton
The case, filed Tuesday, argues that Texas’ near-total abortion ban violates the state and U.S. Constitutions, which “prohibit state actors from killing their citizens.”

I am a parent and if my kid sees someone in a cartoon dog costume she sees a cartoon dog costume. Also people get really creative! I’ve seen plenty of Disney Robin Hoods, but my all-time favorite was a woman whose opossum fursona had a bunch of baby stuffed animal opossums hanging off. Delightful!

This is just so obviously about a right wing panic around furries that portrays them as automatically prurient and sexual. It’s an absurd line to draw at an event where people wear chain mail and leather bikinis on the regular.

Why is a cartoon otter or dog head more sexual than a bodice or a chainmail bikini? This is very silly and arbitrary.
