Text reads: You can be celebrated on a streaming service and defunded by a signature in the same summer. The issue: being seen is not the same as being kept alive.
Many people genuinely believe those are the same thing. Visibility is a form of protection and a society putting disabled people on television would surely not also strip away the thing that gets them out of bed. It's a comforting belief, but in modern America, it is false. Visibility is cheap. It costs the country nothing. Care is what costs, and care is what was cut.

In my defense, I’ve been up since 7. I just don’t check the news immediately.

Maybe the popularization of neurodiversity was A Mistake.
An add for a diet app. The text reads “the cutest calorie deficit app. Built for neurodivergent people by people who know what it’s like.”

This is describing a really specific kind of experience tied to things like class, disability, etc. It’s not universal at all. Most people do not sound like they’re “absorbing the language of management” because most people aren’t management and will never be management.
Text reads: “Modern adulthood encourages optimisation in almost every sphere. Be productive. Be efficient. Heal yourself. Monetise your hobbies.
Curate your identity.
Somewhere along the way, friendships too began absorbing the language of
management. We now discuss emotional bandwidth like data plans. Even affection sometimes feels evaluated through invisible cost-benefit analysis: Who texts first? Who makes more effort? Who is emotionally available? Who drains energy?”

This bit has had me thinking all day. I’m not sure sexual orientation is private — The acknowledgement of same sex relationships isn’t as medicalized or legally/procedurally complex, but other people treating gay relationships as legitimate *is* asking them to do a lot.
An excerpt from the linked article.

Bell: So why doesn't gender identity work the way sexual orientation did?
Wilchins: Because we're asking for a different universe of rights. You don't need a lot of social rights to be gay.
Marriage and adoption rights aside, you can love whoever you want in private. But gender is very social: you need the right to medical care, to public bathrooms, to change your government-issued ID or name, to have your coworkers or your teacher use the right pronoun, etc.
There's this extensive sphere of social behaviors and rights that we ask when we demand recognition for our genders. And for kids, we're probably going to have to ground it in a fixed and essential gender identity.

A tweet from Josh Barro : “This week on Central Air: @DouthatNYT! We search the Epstein files for our own names (we're all in there -- how embarrassing would it be to be left out?). We also talk about AI and the antichrist, and how Ross got his job as the Official Trump Explainer.”

The kicker on the NYT coverage of the new IACC is embarrassingly bad. “The chelation vaccine hyperbaric oxygen gluten people represent us more than ASAN or Autism Society” is just brain worms. How is that the last word on a panel filled with kooks and quacks?
Text reads: For years, the committee was "led by people on the more high-functioning side of the spectrum," said Jacqueline Kancir, executive director of the National Council on Severe Autism and the parent of a profoundly autistic 22-year-old daughter.
"There are a lot of parents out there that are jumping for joy, feeling like they've finally been heard," Ms. Kancir said. "However, it also could be retribution. Time really will tell."
Georgia Gee, Apoorva Mandavilli and Christina Jewett contributed reporting.

We spent our honeymoon in Japan over NYE and ever since then, I’ve enjoyed making some traditional Japanese foods related to the new year. This year I had the privilege of making a teeny tiny bowl of toshikoshi soba for my daughter for the first time. #SupperClub

I don’t want to put anybody on blast, but I do want to counter misinformation because I’ve seen this spreading around: If a Medicare Advantage plan drops an older adult, that older adult automatically gets regular Medicare. They do not lose health insurance coverage.
A QT of an picture of a headline. The headline: UnitedHealth is dropping a million seniors from Medicare Advantage as it aims to restore its ‘swagger’. The QT: Getting my “swagger” back by murdering millions of seniors.
