Robo Machine was the name that Gobots was released under in the UK and Europe (both Gobots & Robo Machine were imports of a Japanese line called Machine Robo). There’s nothing spring-loaded on Tank, probably thinking of something else.

The Real Ghostbusters Green Ghost! 80s Mattel had the TM on any & all variations of the word “slime” locked down tighter than the lid of a tub of Ecto-Plazm hence “Green Ghost” & “known as Slimer in The Real Ghostbusters TV series” on his card. We all knew what to call him anyway #vintagetoytuesday

The Real Ghostbusters Green Ghost - a not especially on-model representation of Slimer based on early, more ferocious concept art

“Green Ghost” is way too big compared to the human figures, which combined with his fierce expression makes him more suited to being an antagonist like in the film

“I’ve been slimed” - Green Ghost has a fairy substantial tail, unlike the film & early cartoon. This is based on early concept art for the show. Eventually Slimer’s animation model would be modified to have a tail in later seasons (and then re-modified to shrink it again) though it was never this long. The tail did make a handy handle (was especially useful for poking into the roof hole on Ecto-1) and was an extra point of articulation for play

Green Ghost came with three pieces of rubber food to gorge on - gnawed slices of watermelon & beef and a nibbled pizza. Ecto-1 makes both a handy table and handy stand for Slimer’s tail (also shows how comically huge Slimer is)

Robo Machine Tank! All my other carded Gobot & RM posts have featured a carded & a different loose bot. Not this one as Tank appropriately decided to smash his way out of the bubble. Still, look on the bright side - minty Tank! Also the triple gun is also very hard to find loose. Tank is adorable 😍

The Real Ghosbusters Gooper Ghosts! 3 Big, bad barfing baddies! Geared towards Ecto-Plazm play (each came with a tub) they still had great play value without it. Later Slimer (sorry “Green Ghost”) was added to the roster. Bad using stickers, given the messy gimmick & need to wash #vintagetoytuesday

The three 1st series evil Gooper Ghosts - Sludge-Bucket (podgy yellow ghost with huge tongue), Banshee Bomber (red dragon/goldfish hybrid) and Squisher (toothy big-mouthed orange ghoul with Kenneth William’s nose). As noted they all use stickers for their eyes, a baffling choice given their play pattern (plazm could stain them and though splash proof water still could soak them off) and that all other GB ghosts have painted eyes

The Goopers show off their sliming features- Sludge-Bucket’s tongue, Banshee Bomber’s bombing mouth and Squisher’s squishy drooling mouth. Even with no goo the features were fun

Slimer joins the gang! He’s quite a bit smaller the others though still big for a GB ghost & his proton pack makes up the volume. Slimer has painted eyes (yay) though his proton pack is covered in stickers even more susceptible to water damage than the first 3

Goopers grab Ghostbusters! Their large size makes them formidable opponents for the guys, even the smaller Slimer is huge!

The Real Ghostbusters Shreddies Glow In The Dark Particle Beam Throwers! Venkman’s Vapouriser, Stantz’ Stunner, Zeddmore’s (sic) Zapper & Spengler’s Super Shooter. These spooky spinners came free inside packets of Shreddies and could be used to knock over the stock image ghost cut-outs from the box

The Real Ghostbusters Bad-To-The-Bone Ghost! This spectral skeleton is by far the creepiest ghost that Kenner put out. The bizarre elongated skull & claw legs are deeply unsettling & it’s easy to imagine it as a low-level mook in a horror game. Capturing/possessing figures makes the eyes bug out

Once subdued with the claw victims are placed in the ribcage (an actual spring-loaded cage) as their head goes up into the skull, opening the jaw in a scream and popping out the eyes!

Machine Robo MR-18 Trailer Robo (aka Gobots Road Ranger). I adore the double-sided “transforming” boxes from this era of Machine Robo (turn it to landscape on one side for vehicle, portrait for robot). Trailer Robo is a solid lil dude & the articulated trailer is very impressive at his size

If anything the value was too low (£800-£1200 for those 4, & though the cards were a bit tatty that’s a Childbro Lion-O which could do more than that on its own). The trouble is the general public won’t hear “some carded TC are worth £800-£1200” they’ll hear “my gnawed on loose figs are worth £800”

The Real Ghostbusters Ecto-2! Small vehicles coming out of bigger vehicles has always been my jam so I was quite disappointed to find that Ecto-2 didn’t fit inside Ecto-1 like in the show. It was still a lot of fun & the rescue winch works well. Only GB vehicle without a lil ghost which is a shame

Ray & Janine prep the Ecto-2 for launch on the roof of the the Fire House (my house dual launchpad for it as a kid). The three-wheeled autogiro has its wings open ready for takeoff!

Ecto-2 soars off it the night sky! Though quite large it only seats a single passenger unlike in show, where it has two seats (you could probably get two figures in it if they had knees)

Ray picks up Egon - quite literally! The winch is operated by the same mechanism that powers the spinning rotate and is strong enough to lift fairly heavy loads. You can see the ecto-bomb on the underside of the vehicle. It can drop though it’s also sculpted as a cannon so I tended to leave it attached

Ecto-2 also has a motor-trike configuration (basically just wings & props closed from ground operations

Robo Machine Falgos & Machine Men Pincher! Euro card uses 🇯🇵 name, 🇦🇺 uses Gobot name. Pincher is the sassiest transforming robot ever made capable of an amazing hands-on-hip “so what?” pose. He’s going to pinch you! Very early balljointed shoulders are nice but go floppy. Card shows a prototype head

Australian Machine Men card is based on the Robo Machine card though uses the Gobot name for the toy. The smaller bubble gives us a good look at the prototype bot head (which has a large circular single eye rather than the Sonic The Hedgehog-style eye of the finished sculpt)

Robot mode, filled with sass! The claws are very delicate-looking, pinching is probably all they are good for!

The weird alien vehicle mode. Very pointy with several distinct cannons. The robot claws are meant to sit unseen, flush with wings, though even on this excellent condition example they sag into view

The Real Ghostbusters Party Pack by Deeko! These party favour baggies can be used to take home any leftover cake or indeed spores, mould and fungus. Winston appears to have randomly developed vitiligo in one hand (guess he really has seen shit to turn you white)

Ghostbusters Ecto-1! The ride of your (after)life! Scooting along making the 🚨EHHH-EHHH-EHHH🚨 noise might have driven my dad crazy but it was so much fun. The ghost is apparently nameless, a total Mandela Effect for me, swore it had one. Drove me nuts that Ecto-2 didn’t fit inside, bloody physics!

Kenner The Real Ghostbusters Ecto-1 / a toy version of the famous Cadillac. Not quite in-model & slightly lacking in detail but still awesome. A gunner’s seat is mounted on the roof

The Ecto-1 slams on the brakes as a small orange ghost blocks the road!

Fortunately it is easily caught with the pull-out claw, which retracts as it drives

In the cartoon Ecto-2couod be stored in the back. It’s a bit big for that in real life though nothing a bit of imagination can’t fix

Imperial Convertables Convert .A. Jeep! A high quality bootleg of Gobots Geeper Creeper which is actually slightly better than the official release as it includes a radio antenna for the jeep mode. I also prefer the greener shade of green used for it to the brownish official one. Good old Imperial

I actually had to steady myself before rewatching on Disney+ and then… oh. It was kinda fascinating how my kid brain interpreted and remembered slightly silly things (eg the gooey green footprints on the wall) into the most fist-gnawing psychological haunting event ever filmed

They’re here to save the world! The original four Kenner Ghostbusters! The wiggly proton streams were fun though it did frustrate me as a child that they didn’t come off for a neutral look/storage in Ecto-1 (unless you broke them off course 😬)

Challenge of the Gobots A Robo Machine Product Hornet! The European card of this chunky brute of a Monster Renegade shows the blue & purple colours of the US release though the toy itself is grey & black for some reason. The grey version isn’t as pretty as the blue but I guess the variety is nice

Challenge of the Gobots A Robo Machine Product Hornet on the card -the card has the standard spacey background of the Enemy Invaders though by this point Robo Machine had dropped that branding in favour of mentioning Gobots instead. As noted the card has photos of the US version of hornet whilst the toy itself is different. This was originally £2.49 from Woolworths

The cross-sells on the back of the card has some fun oddities. The Blackbird Robo is listed as “Snoop” - the US/Ausralian name (the actual RM release was named Sky-Spy). Casmodon, Falgos and Zarios have their RM names listed as the alt modes and are given their Gobot names (Vamp, Pincher & Scorp). Gunnyr is tomato soup coloured like his US release rather than green like the RM and Bugsie has an unreleased red & black colourscheme

Here’s Hornet in “monster” mode (actually a vehicle with vague animalistic stylings). Hornet is one of the more vehicular Monster Renegades with a clear cockpit. The red star stickers make him feel a bit Soviet compared to the yellow-starred Tonka version

Robot mode reveals a slight dopey-looking wedge-shaped head and boxy four-clawed hands. I really like Hornet, looks like an adorably dopey yet brutal henchman

Like most of the big 80s playsets a lot of the detail in the Fire House is provided by stickers & though I would’ve preferred a few actual objects they are nice stickers. The set isn’t devoid of sculpted detail though, there’s a lovely wood effect on the floors & the garage floor is very detailed

Ray admires a portrait that looks remarkably like Granny Gross (it predates her by a fair bit though I imagine the designers kept the image in mind when creating a haunted old lady). I always wondered what the point of the cutout under the portrait was. Saving plastic or a cut feature?

Peter hangs out on the middle floor. Though there’s not much actual floor space the sticker shelves help make it look like a lived-in domestic area. Wish they’d used the plastic budget that went on the slightly pointless railings on some chairs or a desk

Egon works at a computer next to some fancy-looking equipment and what appears to be a car jack and vacuum cleaner. Seems an unfortunate place to put a computer as Egon is right in the way of Ecto-1 comes back

Winston and Janine attempt to deal with a breakout from the containment unit! There’s not actually anywhere to put the containment unit, you either have to use the garage area as a stand-in or put it to one side and imagine a basement. The containment unit is lots of fun though, the top comes off to act as a “trap” which can then be emptied into the unit
