classier than the other more garish variant (+ it has optional fold-out hanger!). The European metallic red colour scheme isn’t quite as striking as the bright cherry red of the US Gobot Zeemon but is still very pretty. The robot mode is an acquired taste but I love it & my clawed hovercar fan-mode

I had Zeemon as a kid and this was my favourite mode for him, a Back To The Future m-style hovercar with claws

The Real Ghostbusters Dolland & Aitchison badge! Back in the 80s/early 90s there was a trend of having kids tv pics in little circles on glasses arms. This badge ties into a GB promotion. I didn’t need glasses but wanted them SO BADLY that I used to sit with my fingers in eyes (still don’t need ‘em)

Robo Machine Super Gobots Herr Fiend (light metallic blue version)! Whilst not as stunning as the other colours this mould was available in it is still very handsome in good condition. The classic 50s sci-fi robot aesthetic of the early Supers isn’t for everyone but I love ‘em #vintagetoytuesday

The Real Ghostbusters Bug-Eye! A design so iconic it made it into Ghostbusters: Afterlife. He’s also one of the few Kenner ghosts that made it into the cartoon in a blink & you’ll miss it (tee-hee) cameo. A lot of fun to mash to send the eyeball flying. Maybe he could use his eye to find a dentist

Grosvenor Ecto-Plazm™ Bubble Bath Ghoulish Ghost H₂Ghost Puppet! “Puppet” is a bit of a stretch (it’s a static bottle topper) but it is lovely! Heavily based on the Kenner toy though it interprets some concept art details differently (the legs become arms & it gains tentacle legs) & it doesn’t split

Grosvenor Ecto-Plazm™ Bubble Bath Ghoulish Ghost H₂Ghost Puppet (smaller) next to the Kenner action figure. Very similar sculpt but with a smaller mouth and a fringe of tentacles instead of legs. Tue legs of the Kenner toy are instead interpreted as arms hanging by the side

From the back you can see that the tail is more clearly defined on the bubble bath topper and, of course, more tentacles

And here is the main difference- - the Kenner toy splits! The tentacles were probably eliminated from the cyclops half to differentiate it from the top half and the arms turned into legs once it lost the tentacles for locomotion

The Real Ghostbusters H₂Ghost! The pun is slightly tortured though the action feature it inspired is to die for! H₂Ghost splits in two two give the Ghostbusters double trouble! Both halves can squirt water (very well!), made great bath toys & generally look fantastic. Briefly cameos in the cartoon

H₂Ghost - a blue, armless big-mouthed monster with warty skin & large orange eyes

The top half of H₂Ghost becomes a sort of cephalopod-like creature with short tentacles with fingernails on them (which are unpainted which is a shame). This half squirts water from the nostrils (great fun!)

The bottom half is a cycloptic frog-like creature with pointy ears and arms. Weirdly it squirts water from the pupil of the eye

The halves of H₂Ghost unleash a torrent of abuse on Peter. The wetter the better!

The Real Ghostbusters Ecto-4! As a kid I made a lot of accessories, vehicles & bases for my toys. Most were cardboard & didn’t survive but this simple air freshener with GB logos on made a fine boat that is still sailing! Loved that it could launch from Ecto-1 & carry 2 figures (glares at Ecto-2)

Ecto-1 backs up to a lake. The back door lowers and a (very simple) yellow boat slides down the ramp with Winston crewing it. Slimer flies overhead. Incidentally I’m not sure if being an aquatic yellow vehicle number 4 that slides out of a bigger vehicle was my idea & a coincidence or if my Dad helped me with the name (seeing as this predates my seeing Thunderbirds) but it’s pretty cool

Ray passes Winston his proton pack and they set sail! (I imagined there was an outboard motor). You could actually fit the four guys into the boat if they stood though it didn’t look very safe

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water here’s H2Ghost! The watery ghost was the primary prey for Ecto-4. Can Winston & Ray catch it before it sinks the ship?

Kenner somewhat made up for the tiny mainline fig with their Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man Plush Toy! Has a tushy tag like a Care Bear. The glow in the dark face is very creepy. Unusually dual purpose he was sold as both “lovable soft & huggable” & “big enough to battle Real Ghostbusters hero figures”

Gobots Collector’s Case! I had to ignore the way the original owner of the case stickered the compartments as the choices didn’t really fit very well. The case came with both ready printed & blank labels to future proof it (or franchise proof it judging by the space for Transformers Pipes!)

Robo Machine Articulated Lorry! “Articulated Lorry” isn’t as cool a name as Gobots “Road Ranger” but it is very British (or very Ronald Reagan if you’re in a Transformers annual). Whatever it is called it is a sharp-looking lil guy. I love how the trailer is perfectly sized for 600-series cars

The Real Ghostbusters Gooper Ghosts Squisher! The only Gooper I had as a kid & as my biggest, baddest ghost he often lead the others against the guys. Ecto-plazm gimmick was great, especially the snot, though made SUCH a mess. RiP my bedroom carpet, may you enjoy the afterlife as much as Squisher

Squisher has quite long legs though thy are moulded in an immobile sitting position. His equally long long arms are articulated though and the large hands are open

Squisher closes his mouth around Winston! The tongue and teeth are articulated and move up and down by way of a lever disguised as Squisher tail

Squisher goops Wnston! When his head is filled with ecto-plazm and pushed down it streams from his nostrils and palate and pools in the lower jaw. The moving jaw allows you to really squish the figure. The shower gel I used for this was far too runny and made a real mess (the video was unusable)

Robo Machine & Gobots & Water Walk! Cool shades! 😎 A bot where Tonka & Bandai Europe went in different directions. Bandai stuck with the original Japanese Cessna Robo colours whilst Tonka invented a handsome new sandy tan & brick orange deco. Very late Robo Machine switched to the Tonka colours

The Real Ghostbusters Gooper Ghost Sludge-Bucket! Didn’t have this fat-tum phantom though wanted it badly as it looked super fun. And it is! Pumping the tail causes the lagoon of Ecto-Plazm to bubble up & the tongue stirs it & draws in victims. Even with no plazm it’s great fun. Love the crazy eyes!

Bubbling up! Swuuezing the tail off btrodyced air to the goop and causes it to bubble! Real Ecto-Plazm would’ve made colourful bubbles but my substitute plazm can only manage clear. Still cool though!

The Real Ghostbusters Green Ghost! 80s Mattel had the TM on any & all variations of the word “slime” locked down tighter than the lid of a tub of Ecto-Plazm hence “Green Ghost” & “known as Slimer in The Real Ghostbusters TV series” on his card. We all knew what to call him anyway #vintagetoytuesday

“Green Ghost” is way too big compared to the human figures, which combined with his fierce expression makes him more suited to being an antagonist like in the film

“I’ve been slimed” - Green Ghost has a fairy substantial tail, unlike the film & early cartoon. This is based on early concept art for the show. Eventually Slimer’s animation model would be modified to have a tail in later seasons (and then re-modified to shrink it again) though it was never this long. The tail did make a handy handle (was especially useful for poking into the roof hole on Ecto-1) and was an extra point of articulation for play

Green Ghost came with three pieces of rubber food to gorge on - gnawed slices of watermelon & beef and a nibbled pizza. Ecto-1 makes both a handy table and handy stand for Slimer’s tail (also shows how comically huge Slimer is)

Robo Machine Tank! All my other carded Gobot & RM posts have featured a carded & a different loose bot. Not this one as Tank appropriately decided to smash his way out of the bubble. Still, look on the bright side - minty Tank! Also the triple gun is also very hard to find loose. Tank is adorable 😍

The Real Ghosbusters Gooper Ghosts! 3 Big, bad barfing baddies! Geared towards Ecto-Plazm play (each came with a tub) they still had great play value without it. Later Slimer (sorry “Green Ghost”) was added to the roster. Bad using stickers, given the messy gimmick & need to wash #vintagetoytuesday

The three 1st series evil Gooper Ghosts - Sludge-Bucket (podgy yellow ghost with huge tongue), Banshee Bomber (red dragon/goldfish hybrid) and Squisher (toothy big-mouthed orange ghoul with Kenneth William’s nose). As noted they all use stickers for their eyes, a baffling choice given their play pattern (plazm could stain them and though splash proof water still could soak them off) and that all other GB ghosts have painted eyes

The Goopers show off their sliming features- Sludge-Bucket’s tongue, Banshee Bomber’s bombing mouth and Squisher’s squishy drooling mouth. Even with no goo the features were fun

Slimer joins the gang! He’s quite a bit smaller the others though still big for a GB ghost & his proton pack makes up the volume. Slimer has painted eyes (yay) though his proton pack is covered in stickers even more susceptible to water damage than the first 3

Goopers grab Ghostbusters! Their large size makes them formidable opponents for the guys, even the smaller Slimer is huge!

The Real Ghostbusters Shreddies Glow In The Dark Particle Beam Throwers! Venkman’s Vapouriser, Stantz’ Stunner, Zeddmore’s (sic) Zapper & Spengler’s Super Shooter. These spooky spinners came free inside packets of Shreddies and could be used to knock over the stock image ghost cut-outs from the box

The Real Ghostbusters Bad-To-The-Bone Ghost! This spectral skeleton is by far the creepiest ghost that Kenner put out. The bizarre elongated skull & claw legs are deeply unsettling & it’s easy to imagine it as a low-level mook in a horror game. Capturing/possessing figures makes the eyes bug out

The Real Ghostbusters Bad-To-The-Bone Ghost - a floating skeleton with an oversized elongated skull, burning yellow & red eyes, long arms and a tapering claw in the place of legs (used for capturing humans)

Watch out Winston, you’re about to get boned!

Once subdued with the claw victims are placed in the ribcage (an actual spring-loaded cage) as their head goes up into the skull, opening the jaw in a scream and popping out the eyes!

Machine Robo MR-18 Trailer Robo (aka Gobots Road Ranger). I adore the double-sided “transforming” boxes from this era of Machine Robo (turn it to landscape on one side for vehicle, portrait for robot). Trailer Robo is a solid lil dude & the articulated trailer is very impressive at his size

For lunch let's have some Real Ghostbusters potato snacks from Sooner Snacks! The cheese & bacon flavour were to die for and if I had a time machine grabbing a packet would be a priority. For now they haunt my tastebuds… who ya gonna call?
