There’s also something to how women are socialized to be suspicious of flattery — it’s how we transfer responsibility for men’s desire onto women’s bodies; we are taught to defend against that in service to our “innocence” or whatever — whereas men accept flattery as their due. Perfect marks.

A Trump-Ready Seattle!
Audience Member: What is the council doing to prepare Seattle for the incoming Trump Administration?
Bob Kettle: Well, for starters we're repealing the ban on cops using blast balls and other crowd control weapons
BK: Plus federal agencies will now have access to our new CCTV surveillance cameras
BK: and of course we've defunded renter protections and affordable housing while stepping up sweeps
BKwhich will tighten the vise on the unruly working class to keep them compliant
AM: Um, I meant what are you doing to *protect* the city *from* the incoming trump admin?
BK: Oh, haha. Next question please

people who use AI as a replacement for thinking, learning and communicating should be shamed and punished. the same way we shame and punish drunk drivers, or people who negligently discharge firearms. it is bad to misuse tools in a way that damages society

The Washington Post trying to frame this as anything other than a massive failure is so pathetic. How did the organizers of this parade manage to make the mightiest military in the world look so toothless? Why is the paper who broke the Washington Post amplifying hollow propaganda? Shameful.

Timely perspective and wisdom from Rebecca Solnit. "I believe ardently that nonviolent resistance is ... the most effective strategy, but that doesn't mean it must be polite, placid, or please our opponents, not least because nothing ever will and they'll lie and distort no matter what." 💯

The mayor’s primary job is to keep people safe, and that means taking action to prevent danger & violence before it starts. A fundamentalist Christian, anti-trans “family values” demonstration never should have been permitted for Cal Anderson, in the heart of Seattle’s historic LGBTQ neighborhood.
