First week of switching from Unreal to Godot. I’m sticking with Godot. Unreal is great, but I only used about 20% it. Godot is missing a lot, but iteration is super fast, runs on almost anything, & I prefer the UI. Might be the honeymoon phase, but for the games I want to make, it’s the better tool.

Another day tinkering in Godot. It's still challenging to think in code instead of Unreal’s Blueprints, but I’m becoming more comfortable with GDScript. Mapping Unreal concepts over requires some help, but we have tools for that now ;) . Despite the hurdles, I really enjoy working in Godot so far.

Third day with Godot wasn't smooth. I got a bit frustrated, things I could do in 10 minutes in Unreal took me 3 hours, but that's the tax I pay for switching engines. I need to develop muscle memory and getting used to coding instead of using blueprints. #godot

ay two switching from unreal to #godot - still need to get used to coding instead of visual scripting, but I’m already mapping blueprints to GDScript, and it’s actually not bad for me. Love how fast everything runs and how quickly I can start working without waiting for the editor to load.

My first week with #godot after years of working only with Unreal. Let's see if I'll stick with it. Did the same thing many years ago when switching from 3ds Max to Blender - now I can't imagine working outside of Blender.

How do you all feel about revealing your game concept early? Now, with AI, it’s much easier to just copy the idea and ai slop it. On the other hand, if your game is good, it doesn’t really matter if it’s one of a kind, right?

True! People over at @noclipvideo.bsky.social do a good job finding hidden gems, and some niche YouTubers do that as well, but I rarely see bigger channels doing it. It will be even harder in the future when more AI cash-grab games flood the market.

people need to understand that games on steam largely do not ‘underpeform,’ they either hit the algorithmic tipping points and become viral successes or they do not exist. they sell bad day at a garage sale numbers. this is a reality constructed and encouraged by valve

There are so many great games being released every day, yet it's easier and cheaper for outlets to cover only those that already have attention. Wish more outlets would cover those overlooked games.

Is there a visual scripting tool for Godot? One that can later be turned into GDScript? I’m learning Godot but it’s so much easier for me to think visually. With Blueprints in UE I’m like 3-4x faster. It would make the transition so much easier. #godot #gdscript

After a couple years struggling as a game dev, I’m back to a full-time job outside gaming. Didn’t think I’d enjoy it, but it’s not bad. Now with no financial pressure from making games, I feel like I can do whatever I want and I’ve been more productive than ever

I’ve been on Unreal for years. Blueprints sold me on it as I’m an artist first, developer second. Now that I’ve shipped Dead Head Drive, I keep thinking about #Godot. My plan is to prototype in Unreal, then rebuild in #Godot to really learn pipeline. Any Unreal devs out there who’ve made the jump?
